You can breathe a bit easier Runners. Sony’s CFO Lin Tao confirmed Marathon will continue to be supported! Here is what they said in full - “In our studio business, earnings from Bungie's title portfolio did not reach our expectations, so we downwardly revised our business plan and impaired the full amount of the fixed assets related to Bungie except for goodwill. Player reception to Marathon is strong, with the game receiving a Metacritic score of 82 and more than 90% of the player reviews on Steam being positive. Engagement metrics such as retention also remain at a high level. Going forward, we aim to improve the performance of the game by working to retain highly engaged core users through the introduction of additional content, further improvements in the gameplay experience and expansion of the user base.”

Yes, Sony Reports $765 Million Impairment Loss against Bungie. However, from their call - Marathon isn't going anywhere yet and they still intend to try and grow the player base. We do not know how business plan 'revisions' may impact D2 though..

Marathon solo is as incredible as it is exhausting. Back to back to back to back zero progress runs suck. You die, fail your "and exfil" objective, achieve only a lighter vault and ultimately backwards meta progress. Repeating of course. Arc Raiders does some very clever things to avoid this issue. Not that Marathon should just copy everything from arc and sand down all the edges. I really think Bungie could alleviate this by letting us run 1 or 2 side contracts along side a priority contract, so even if you die you are still more likely to make some form of progress. But idk how else you could address this? It's just too deflating and feelsbadman.jpg.
