“We're doing our best, but it feels like wartime.” What is New York City's plan to deal with the surge in patients during the pandemic? Tomorrow on 60 Minutes.

@mnarasimhan Often that question (do you want everything done?) is asked because alternative statements haven’t be taught or role modeled. This is changing. We need to keep it moving.

@mnarasimhan We should not be asking ‘that’ question, for it implies that we are not doing everything. Rather we should learn to say “dying inspite of efforts”(whatever this may be) and use that opportunity to walk through compassionate options for care.....

The most misused words heard in critical care are “do everything “. We should focus on education efforts to stop the inappropriate use of care at the end of life. It goes against all common sense.

1/ “Can I run something by you?” It was Saturday. I was already gone. She was still on the ward. I didn’t respond to that text. Instead, I called her directly. Me: “Hey.” Her: “I’m so sorry to bother you, Dr. Manning.” Me: “Never be sorry.” *silence* Me: “I’m all ears."
