Are you working on a book on ancient Near Eastern or Mediterranean religions? Consider publishing with the RAM series at Eisenbrauns. We have some great titles lined up, and yours could be next! eisenbrauns.org/books/series/b…

@edighafrancisca I think the biggest takeaway is how similar these types of deities are to more anthroform (humanlike) deities. The same mental mechanisms and templates that produce all god concepts are at work with these types of deities.

@SingletaryJen Such a fascinating and groundbreaking study your interdisciplinary approach is impressive! What do you hope will be the biggest takeaway for readers engaging with these ancient concepts of divinity?

@LasseAcademia I discuss some qualities/attributes of YHWH as deities at Elephantine in chapter 8. You might find that interesting!

@SingletaryJen It probably is not in the book (would be surprised if it is), do you discuss the malak YHWH and it being identified with 'emotions' / 'attributes' of YHWH, such as in Exodus 23, or is there maybe any parallel of such discussed?

@SusannePetruss2 I was inspired to look toward cognitive science for answers because I was discontent with approaches that overemphasized the difference between anthropomorphic and nonanthropomorphic conceptions of deity and attributed them to differences in cognition.

@SingletaryJen Wow, that sounds incredibly deep and fascinating! I’m really intrigued by the way it blends ancient texts with cognitive science. What inspired you to explore this angle and did any specific example or culture stand out most during your research?

I'm so saddened by the loss of our colleague, Don Redford. I had the privilege of sitting in on his Egyptian language courses last year. He was an amazing teacher and friend, as well as an incredibly prolific scholar.
Penn State CAMS@psu_cams

The CAMS Department mourns the loss of our colleague, Don Redford, a titan of Egyptology and a mentor to generations of students. His accomplishments as a scholar were unmatched, and it was our honor to be his co-workers. Our hearts go out to his family. Rest in peace, Don.
