@aesculapiusw @mir53381 @LasseAcademia Unlike you, I'm not an apologist. I try to approach these texts objectively, critically, and informed by scholarship, without preconceived notions of what these authors must have thought.

@Nicholai_Korea I have not seen you claim this? But I think it is irresponsible to tell others to ignore an individual, just because they do so.

Please everyone keep in mind Ananda apologetics on youtube left Orthodoxy and thus his content should be ignored for sake of your own peace.

Today I read parts of "The Gospels in Islamic Context" (2025) and came across a chapter by Ali Ataie. He argues that the canonical gospels (and the Diatessaron) are authoritative, and partly outlines how they may be interpreted consistently with Islam. Interesting contribution.

I wonder if there's a connection between Papias talking about Mark collecting Peter's "memoirs", and Justin Martyr talking about the Gospels as "memoirs of the Apostles"? Both use a form of apomnēmoneumata which was also how Xenophon named his Memorabilia. Seems to have some bearing on the reception of the Gospels by the earliest readers and their genre.

@abdul_now Even though I dislike apologetics, this feels like this image to me:

@MatthewHartke To me, this argument is audacious: rejecting all the clear evidence for a late date, while dismissing the problems of an early date simply because one can’t imagine Daniel having such an early reception—which itself is based on speculation—is outright insanity.

A common evangelical argument for a 6th c. BC dating of Daniel is that the copies & references to the book discovered at Qumran (especially 4Q114 & 4Q174) rule out a 2nd c. BC date. From what I can tell, this argument goes back to R. K. Harrison (see pics)...

When I read more about the life of the Jewish People under the Seleucid Empire, it makes me think of what is going on today in Palestine, specifically the lament of Sirach. I imagine a lot of people in Gaza feel the same as the Jewish People must've felt (Willis 2020, p. 44)

@aabbbbcc33 Good post, I would add that we can say with a good amount of confidence that (the historical) Jeremiah claimed to be a prophet like Moses

Someday I would like to write a book attacking both Christian and Muslim apologists for making bad arguments against and for Islam. Why just make one group of apologists mad at me?

@LasseAcademia @Alfredovich65 @Apostolic7262 @NexusHistory @IanCook321 I'll check that out. I think however that the parallels to Greek texts are too numerous and striking to be ignored. If the Torah is not a Hellenistic creation it must have at least undergone a major redaction influenced by Greek thought during that period.
