@ShinyRoks Yeah, just fooling around. Those were nice swing trades, but I mostly discuss day trading here.

@SmallCapSmarts Unpleasantries aside, I just wanted to point out there have been huge tradable trends in energy this year. Clearly different strategies being discussed though if you don’t have any quality setups.

In terms of both the number of opportunities and the quality of setups, this is probably the worst market since 2022. Large caps and small caps both feel equally bad.

@SmallCapSmarts Isn't it cyclical after all , i mean the setups are driven by demand , more longs , more easy short setups , less longs , less easy short setups. We've been in really crazy market last 2 years in SC in terms of opportunities. Feels normal to get back to something which sucks

nvm it had lookahead bias. 320 stars on github and it was taking todays s&p 500 constitutes to calculate ratios from 2006. A ton of research time wasted but at least no money lost.
Niv Goren@hackertrader

Always heard about it but was finally able to prove it. Market breadth seem to have an edge trading momentum breakout type strategy (it could be overfit, mistake etc etc). From 48% CAGR and 40% DD to 46% CAGR and 25% DD. Shoutout to the guy behind this: tradermonty.github.io/market-breadth…

@SmallCapSmarts Mind sharing if you tracked the average overnight borrow rates for SC shorts? Is 300% (per 360 cal days) a reasonable estimate? 🙏

Every paid course trading strategy I backtest usually shows the same equity curve. Not terrible. Not good. Just enough to cherry-pick perfect trades in hindsight. If something is truly scalable and robust, it doesn’t end up in a $299 or even $6500 course. It gets traded quietly… until it stops working.

WRONG. The loophole wasn't created by the state — Doug created it. Texas law prohibits gambling for profit, so he structured the rake as a "membership fee" and "time charges" specifically to circumvent that. The state didn't write a law saying "charge a membership fee and you can run a poker room" — Doug's lawyers engineered that structure to exploit the gap. There's a difference between a law having an unintended loophole and someone deliberately constructing a business model designed from day one to skirt the law. That's exactly what's being investigated right now — whether the structure was legitimate or manufactured to avoid prosecution. The fact that the IRS is involved alongside TABC suggests they think it's the latter.

I have read Search and Seizure Warrant against The Lodge in full, and it does appear to be a witch hunt. Essentially, they're deeming poker in TX illegal and therefore classifying what we'd consider normal banking transactions as money laundering because it's proceeds from what they say is illegal gambling. All the undercover operations outlined in the affidavit describe a normally functioning, well-run poker room. To me, nothing in it suggests what we in the poker world would consider scandalous/nefarious, but rather authorities simply taking a stance on the grey area/loophole that they consider illegal. If the TABC ultimately prevails that poker at The Lodge constitutes illegal gambling, it’ll shut down every room in TX. More on @PokerNews here 👇 pokernews.com/news/2026/03/t…

@AmosVirginia3 Of course not. But there is a lot of edge in optimizing returns per unit of risk allocated. I rarely see much of that happening.

@SmallCapSmarts depends. if you're trying to capture actual inefficiencies and anomalies.. no one would sell that. If it's just trades for risk premium in liquid markets. you'll make more selling courses than you would lose due to edge erosion.

@fine_trader It's tough, even if a backtest is good, the chance it will work in real life is usually small.

Dorian gave great advice imo. But if you're adamant about being a trader, I'd look at long scalping. You can try it with very little capital, learn fast (lots of trades daily), keep losses small while you learn, and avoid tail risk. Shorting and holding for days was great until we started getting black swan events several times a month.

@SmallCapSmarts How would you go about building a profitable strategy in small caps? Where should we look? Are interviews on yt and such a good source or should one stay away from those?
