Our first and only constitutional amendment to be repealed, what was so severe about America under #Prohibition that it only lasted 13 years? How did a guy smuggle whiskey into America in an egg carton? Listen to @Snowtini with Juliette Sellgren: ow.ly/jSJ050TBGb6

I had a fun conversation with Juliette Sellgren on the Great Antidote Podcast.

.@CocaCola was a major supporter of Prohibition, lobbying for its passage because they saw it as eliminating competition from the alcohol industry. This is an example of the Bootleggers and Baptists'theory in action. More from @WabashCollege's @snowtini: ow.ly/oasG50TABF5

A friend says that the Israelite tribes were still nomadic herders, not settled farmers, when pigs were prohibited. Additionally, Israelite priests did *not* depend on agriculture for their livelihood. They didn't have their own land to farm on. The entire tribe of Levi, of which priests were (and in fact still are) a subgroup, did not have its own tribal territory. They were dispersed among the other tribes and their role was to perform sacrificial rites and to act as public health officials. They were supported by being given portions of the sacrifices they officiated at as well as designated tithes collected from the other twelve tribes. In other words, they were public servants whose livelihood came from tax revenue.

@russnelson @VincentGeloso Well we would be open to the evidence your friend can provide but the historical literature we surveyed says the opposite. There were probably nomadic individuals but the state held large land estates. Which is what was put in danger by the pigs.
