AI can generate answers in seconds, but books were never just about answers. They’re about sustained thought, intellectual patience, and wrestling with ideas long enough for them to change you.
An AI gives you information. A book gives you a mind to think with.
In fact, the more the world floods with instant content, the rarer and more powerful deep reading becomes. Nobody boasts about finishing 300 TikToks. But people still say, “That book changed my life.”
The printing press didn’t kill storytelling. Television didn’t kill books. The internet didn’t kill books. AI won’t either.
If anything, AI may create a strange new divide: people who consume endless summaries… and people who still know how to think in chapters.
