@joshtriedcoding I refuse to use things that are sign in with Google only. I don’t want everything linked to my Google account.
English

@app_settings @ChaitanyaOnTech False sense of security. Don't send private info to people you don't trust.
English

@ChaitanyaOnTech this is a privacy feature, how would you feel if someone screenshotted view-once images or private chats without your knowledge? 🤦
English

@DarrylWhitwort2 @BBCNews No. And it’s not Apple’s responsibility if you brick your phone either. They’ll restore your phone’s software at an Apple Store for free, but they won’t help you with data recovery. I don’t get the point you’re trying to make here.
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews 2/ You can own a house & not the land. Is it the estate agents responsibility to repair any of the furniture in your home if you spray paint it?

I’m a developer. I’d like to be able to sideload my own stuff without having to sign it and refresh it every 7 days or put it on my company’s developer account.
I’d also like to be able to sideload modified apps, and possibly a browser with a different engine than WebKit.
How about being able to buy apps for cheaper as devs will be able to avoid Apple’s 30% fee?
How about things like PojavLauncher which allows you to play Minecraft Java edition on iOS? Or UTM which allows you to run virtual machines?
The possibilities are endless, and the only limits here are Apple’s bogus restrictions.
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews As a matter of interest what apps are you side loading?
English

Regardless of sideloading, Apple are still responsible for making iOS work properly. Sideloading doesn’t affect this.
If you wipe your phone accidentally, Apple aren’t responsible for the data loss. If you sideload and do something stupid (which, as apps are sandboxed, would be very hard) then Apple wouldn’t be responsible either.
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews What I believe is if your phone goes haywire it would be Apple that would have to make a patch for you.
Software patches, upgrades etc., are made at the discretion of the provider.
You own the phone Apple, Samsung, Nokia, etc., own the bit that makes it do stuff.
English

An iPhone is the right product for what I need, par sideloading.
You should be able to do what you want with your devices. Your hardware is held hostage by Apple. You should have the option to sideload and do whatever you want with it. No one would force you to sideload, but you should have the choice.
I really fail to believe people like you actually exist who say “yes I believe a big corporation should be able to tell me what I am allowed to do with the product I bought”. Imagine if your estate agent said you were only allowed to put approved furniture in the house you bought, or if your fridge manufacturer only let you store food from an approved supermarket, or if a car company said you could only use their tyres. When I put the same concept on different things, it sounds stupid. So why should it be any different with phones?
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews Tosh.
You only own the hardware on any phone.
Nobody is stopping you from buying the incorrect product for your needs.
This can be evidenced by you owning an iPhone.
English

If you buy something, you should own it.
Apple’s platforms aren’t some “great apps only” club and there’s plenty of trash on the App Store.
Sideloading should be an option. No one is forcing you to sideload, but when you buy a device you should own it and be able to do what you want with it.
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews 2/ Part of the reason I like Apple is because of its exclusivity.
It is something I buy into. It is part of the product.
What next? 50cc engines should be allowed into F1?
English

@DarrylWhitwort2 @BBCNews So you’re saying because a few bad people did some bad things that’s why blackberry died?
English

@DarrylWhitwort2 @BBCNews I have no clue what you’re even trying to say. What does sideloading have to do with BlackBerry??
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews I got the Blackberry back in the day because it was a better product & had a qwerty keyboard.
Mugs bought into it later because of the encrypted chats & helped wreck a good company.
So forgive me for not listening to social media addicts venting off about Apple - or yourself.
English

@DarrylWhitwort2 @BBCNews For… not letting you do what you want with your own phone? You are aware no one is forcing you to sideload, right?
English

@Splat_Pearled @BBCNews This is one of the reasons I like Apple.
English

I’m a software developer. If people want some quick scripts to get something done I wouldn’t tell them to go out of their way and learn to code. Sure, it’s different if you’re doing more than that but this whole “go and spend time that you may not have to learn how to do something which is completely unnecessary” thing is stupid when it’s for a 5 second joke (which is basically the perfect use for image models, jokes and quick edits).
I could understand if this guy was trying to sell commissions with AI but it’s literally a 5 second joke

@stupidtechtakes @MegaMarian12350 Discord won’t be paying anything remotely close to that, but yeah storing files is expensive
English

@MegaMarian12350 assuming discord's 20M MAU have all uploaded just 100 files, with the new limit of 25MB, the cost of hosting files would go up from $300,000 at 10MB to $750,000, per month
this is not including Cloudflare's costs for Class A & Class B operations, and other fees (2/2)
English

Not even Apple agrees with you. Apple say that the $99 developer program fee is what pays for their developer tools, not the tax. See here: developer.apple.com/programs/whats…
And yes, software does get funded by buying hardware. When you buy a Windows laptop, Windows is included. Same thing applies for Apple hardware, except that the "software fee" isn't directly disclosed. You're paying for both when you buy the product, but in a "bundle".
English

@Splat_Pearled @steipete @xylys software doesnt get funded by buying hardware, it gets funded when people pay for software. apple taxes devs for access to ios users, thats not covered by hardware, it's a separate gatekeeping fee and tbh thats fair to everyone cause apple provides premium experience for everyone

@J3rryH0well @hesselbom @iamfra5er On the App Store at least, if you earn under 1M/year it’s “only” 15% (still insane)

Looks like @ishmilly is going into lockdown after getting called out for domain extortion. Rare I “send the mob” after people but he’s a legit scum bag.
He’s currently trying to block and hide all the replies calling out his scummy behavior.
