You can destroy those parts without effecting someones ability to walk, talk, eat, or think. It's like pulling out half the RAM of a computer; it still works.

Squids have very simple, very small brains; none of it is unnecessary to live, cut any of it off and it'll die.

@surrentum75 @sorealfoods The brain is behind the eyes and slightly above; you can see the orange coloured brain matter where it was cut. It's dead instantly, plus it can't smell or hear, it also can't see well out of the water, it doesn't have the capability to know what's going on.

@HdSneg76318 @sorealfoods Yeah, you can; they often do that. But you have to hit it just right. Too light or miss, and you have to try again, basically torturing the thing. Too hard, and you crush it and ruin the meat. Simpler and more humane to cut it in half. Guillotine vs. Baseball bat, your choice.

It was dead instantly, either way. Also, you can't stab its brain; it's long and needs to be cut in half to kill it instantly.

@StickyBeeSyrup @sorealfoods I just watched a video about the dissection of a squid the brain is near the eyes, so the guy literally cut half of its body off. And not the brain. He could have just stabbed the brain with a sharp object.

@Curiosi47002798 @sorealfoods Yeah, they do that because their tentacles spread out after death, under skin tension, pulling them upright. Then once upright, they're supported on all sides and can't, or don't usually, fall back over.
