The keys of the kingdom given to Peter (Matthew 16:19) were not a permanent office of supreme rule passed down through a papal line. They represented a unique, temporary apostolic role for Peter in opening the Gospel to three groups: Jews (Acts 2, Pentecost), Samaritans (Acts 8), and Gentiles (Acts 10). Once those "doors" were opened, the keys had served their purpose. The typology from Isaiah 22:22 (Eliakim as steward) is noted but overextended here. Jesus' words to Peter do not establish ongoing visible "stewardship" or papal authority over the Church. The same "binding and loosing" authority appears in Matthew 18:18 for the whole church in the context of discipline—not exclusive to Peter or his supposed successors. The true foundation of the Church is Christ (the rock of Peter's confession that Jesus is the Messiah, Son of the living God) and the apostles' teaching (Ephesians 2:20). Peter himself later calls all believers a "royal priesthood" with access to God through Christ alone (1 Peter 2:9). No human steward or institution holds the keys today—the Gospel itself is the key that opens the Kingdom to all who believe.

No, we don’t all have the keys. What is the importance of the keys Jesus gives Peter? The answer is found in biblical typology. In Isaiah 22:22, Eliakim, the steward of the Davidic kingdom, is entrusted with the key of the house of David, a visible symbol of the king’s trust and authority. The steward has the power to “open and shut,” meaning his decisions carry the force of the throne itself. Jesus is clearly drawing on this typology when He tells Peter in Matthew 16:19, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” Just as Eliakim was given authority to govern while the king was away, Peter is entrusted with authority to rule in Christ’s kingdom on Earth. The language of “binding and loosing” parallels the “opening and shutting” of Isaiah. This authority is not Peter’s own but delegated from Christ, so that the Church would have visible leadership on Earth. Revelation 3:7 identifies Jesus as the Davidic King who holds the key of David. When Jesus gave Peter the keys, He put him in a position of leadership in the Church. Just as the role of steward continued in the Old Testament, Peter’s role shows the ongoing leadership in the Church here on Earth. This typology shows the connection between David’s kingdom and Christ’s kingdom, which is ordered and led through the steward Christ Himself appoints.

If you possess the gospel, you possess the keys to the Kingdom of God. Don't listen to Catholics who say that only the Pope and the RCC have the keys!

@StilLarry @drewmichael78 @BigDiChris777 @oliverburdick And Simon and Jude? Are they just left out? Consider Matthew 1:24-25. It literally states that Joseph consummated the marriage after Mary had given birth to Jesus, meaning 1) She couldn't have been a perpetual virgin, and 2) It would be possible they had other kids.

@oliverburdick People are really deluded about Mary. They should just start a Mary cult and remove Jesus entirely. Then they could devote all their attention to her.

@drewmichael78 @BigDiChris777 @oliverburdick Nope. The language of the passage is being about Jesus' blood relatives. Otherwise, why bring up Mary at all? The entire reason Jesus was as shocking to the people in the synagogue was because of His family ties. The burden of proof is on you to tell me why it's not blood.

@PaulOgbonnayaO1 @BernieWanzie @UcheMaryOkoli Catholicism in a nut shell. Casting out demons bad Miracles bad Speaking in tongues bad Singing good modern songs bad Prophecy bad. The successor of Peter who did all these in his day, only took the keys and left the anointing behind. It is well, let's go to church and pray✝️

Someone observed something during the Pope's visit to Cameron. He said the service was simple and well-organized. There were no arranged miracles, casting out of demons, or calling on the holy ghost fire upon enemies. He also observed there wasn't any sale of any "powerful Pope's holy water", there wasn't blowing on air on the microphone to impact holy spirit on the people. No raising hands in the air to receive financial breakthrough, or "God revealed to me' stories. According to him, The event featured great music, excellent cultural representation from the organizers. There was no speaking in tongues, binding of Satan, or collection of offerings or tithes. Rather he observed It brought unity among religions, traditional leaders, political leaders and the people. Isn't Jesus wonderful.

The Bible tells me to support the Children of Israel: “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” It says nothing about a Pope. The first Pope was Siricius (384–399 AD). So we went 320 years after Peter's death during the most formative time in the Christian church with NO Vicar of Christ (Christ's representative/deputy on earth)? If the Pope is so important, then how did the early Christian church survive 320 years without one? Sorry but for me, the Pope doesn't "stand in the place of Christ." Jesus does that just fine all by himself.

@Ihunanya_chi @MFaarees_ Did Mary go to school? Should every Christian get pregnant at 12 just like Mary? They literally called it AL-GORITHM. The thing that you learn in school and what makes your phone works. Have you ever learned why there’s an AL infront of it or is education forbidden there?

This is another shameful incident where a Muslim lady was denied an entry into the exam hall simply because she's wearing a hijab in Nigeria. If the non-Muslim girls have the right to dress half-naked, why don't our Muslim sisters have the right to cover their bodies?

She's not God, and there's no mention of her being afforded a seat with him or next to him. Can't say I get the fixation on Mary. She was a great woman; but, she's not deity. She can't answer your prayers, can't hear you. Etc. (Eccl. 9:6). What is scriptural is not treating her as an idol. It's ok to admire her role; but, you're giving her a status like she's a goddess and she's not.

Ladies, Settle down. Mary is sitting on a throne just as Bathsheba, mother of King Solomon, sat on a throne at her son’s right hand. Mary is the mother of Jesus, who is King of Kings. Of course, she’s on a throne at His almighty right hand. This is scriptural. (1Kings 2:19)
