One way or another (no General election involved) the Conservatives have got rid of the following sitting Party leaders in my lifetime: Churchill Eden Macmillan Heath Thatcher Duncan Smith Cameron May Johnson Truss Except (arguably) Blair Labour has never done this.

@UtdMaI I think that United have scored more goals and that weighs in their favour.

Somebody explain to me as a kid… why is Manchester United still top of Liverpool on the Premier League table yet we all have the same number of points and goal differences, even alphabetically “L” comes before “M”

@tomhfh This was the first General Election I worked as a Labour supporter. The Tories won quite easily and " surprise loss" certainly overstates the position. It is true that a year or so before the election Labour were expected to do better

Labour Leader Hugh Gaitskell hosted a private meeting in his Hampstead home after his party’s surprise loss of the 1959 General Election. The mood was despondent. Traditional working class Britain was shrinking. Modernity made trade union banners look antiquated. Millions of people were becoming middle class. Gaitskell’s close ally Patrick Gordon Walker summarised the discussion as “we were too closely tied to a working class that no longer exists”. One participant at the meeting suggested revising the party constitution to delete the Clause IV commitment to nationalisation. Another suggested modernising the party’s name to appeal to modern middle classes. The name that was floated? The Reform Party.

@KeruboSk To my paternal grandparents. Dad was born 1908 one of the younger children. We were evacuated to Dad's family so I did talk to them both.

Just out of curiosity… who out there has actually talked to someone born in the 1800s during their lifetime?

@exPremiers Sorry not to have replied earlier. Lord Attlee was very elderly then. He was introduced as " the man who gave independence to India ". As you probably know he'd served on the pre-war Simon's Commission. world government had long been one of his interests.

🗓️ On this day in 1956, 25 January, Clement Attlee took his seat in the House of Lords as the first Earl Attlee. 🚨 One of his supporters was Earl Baldwin of Bewdley, Stanley Baldwin's son. 🗣️ The new Earl became one of the most parliamentary active ex-PMs.

@Lea_EFC Fergie is a true Scot who are known to be " bonnie haters" . I smiled when the commentator said he'd come to watch both teams lose! Actually, I sat next to him at a dinner in London the year before he got his"K" and he was such a pleasant and nice man.

🚨José Mourinho on Tottenham Hotspur: “They sacked me two days before a final — that tells you everything about the club. They even sacked a manager after he had won them their first European trophy. There’s no real winning culture. Players like Son Heung-min and Harry Kane gave them relevance, not trophies. They should be left out of the Big Six in England. Igor Tudor should be lucky he didn’t do much before they sacked hi…..𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲
