Poisoning can happen to anyone of any age. That’s why you can call the Poison Help line (1-800-222-1222) to connect with your local poison center. When the unexpected happens, @MDPoisonCtr is here for you.

Earlier this week, I convened the Washington/Baltimore HIDTA and the Maryland Department of Health's Rapid Analysis of Drug (RAD) program to brief @MDHealthDept, @MDSP, @StopOverdoseMD, the Maryland Overdose Response Advisory Council, Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Overdose Response, and our partners at @MarylandGOCCP on emerging drug trends in our state. By improving our understanding of the drug supply we can empower individuals with the knowledge they need to reduce their own risk, and provide our agencies with the critical data necessary to meet new threats head on. We know that addressing the overdose crisis requires a whole-of-government approach. Collaboration and cooperation among federal, state, and local agencies, including continuing to bridge the gap between public health and public safety, is critical to increasing the effectiveness of our efforts to reduce overdoses across Maryland. We are proud to be united in this effort in saving lives.

As an immigrant and woman of color in engineering, I rarely saw anyone in the room who looked like me. But every woman who takes a seat at the table makes it easier for the next one to follow. This #WomensHistoryMonth, I’m proud to work with Governor Moore to build a Maryland where every woman and girl can see themselves in STEM, public service, and leadership. Watch more from my interview with @mymcmedia.

Legislative session is in full swing in Maryland! Last week, Special Secretary of Overdose Response @Emily_N_Keller joined @SenatorDawnGile and others to testify in support of Senate Bill 562, which would make buprenorphene easier to access through pharmacies in Maryland.

Last month, we hosted the second annual Overdose Prevention Advocacy Day on Lawyer’s Mall. But the fight to strengthen policy, sustain our progress, and close the remaining gaps doesn’t happen on just one day — it’s work that continues every single day. And for those caring for loved ones with substance use disorder, or those who have lost someone to addiction, it’s something they carry with them for a lifetime. I’m grateful for the advocates who show up day after day and proud to stand with the people leading this work across Maryland. Every life is worth fighting for.

The 5th goal in Maryland's Overdose Response Strategy is improving outcomes in the criminal legal system. This includes reducing criminal legal involvement, such as through law enforcement diversion programs, and increasing access to services in jails/prisons. #StopOverdoseMD
