@ChristinaTasty Not to mention that they reaaaly broaden the appeal. My girlfriend doesn’t really care much for RPGs, but she played through the entire BG3 three times (!) just for the romance

@priestessofdada Um what? Which particular rust rewrites are you talking about? Rewriting from gc languages is always noticeably faster and up to like 10x less memory. Rewriting from c/c++ is unlikely to be faster and no one claims it would be, those rewrites are for other reasons

Funny how you can rewrite the world in Rust and performance doesn't improve. This is a kind of mass delusion, where devs collectively and conveniently forget that there's no such thing as a general purpose language

@dig6394 @bilbosfootcomb As a person who’s grown up on shitty bootleg recordings of shows in the 2000s, I am really attached to that unpolished sound 😅 But I can see how it can turn some people off

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb A problem Eurovision often has is the desire to include audience noise. It's understandable, and the show would feel very empty without it, but it means you often get a very roomy texture to the song that you don't get in a studio recording

Ngl I hadn’t heard a single Eurovision song except that Israeli Chicken one and this is some of the most genuinely unlistenable dogshit I’ve ever heard lmfao why does anyone watch this

@StranderSay @martoswag @bilbosfootcomb and they aren’t even patriotic lol one of the videos in this song is a non-Italian country doing a song called “macchiato.” These are D-list performers debasing themselves on the only stage that will have them. They’re desperate failures.

@ducktales2020 @martoswag @bilbosfootcomb I can tell from your analysis that you’ve never watched it nor listened to any of the songs in full. This songs play a lot outside of eurovision as well (why is specifically the gym a criteria idk, but there too lol)

@StranderSay @martoswag @bilbosfootcomb they’re bad because they’re bad. It’s a case study in how nationalism makes people act insane. These songs are created with the express purpose of meeting the criteria of the competition, not to be listenable music. No one’s putting these on at the gym.

@StranderSay @martoswag @bilbosfootcomb no, they are bad because they’re 1991 dance songs untethered from time and space, that don’t resemble any actual music that anyone on earth listens to, all for a bizarre nationalist reality show ritual

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb theres been a clear trend of songs having 10 second clips that sound good for tiktok. eurovision songs should be the pinnacle of this phenomenon, but even at that they fail

@ZJaoti51030 @bilbosfootcomb Yeah sure dude, all pop music sucks and you are very smart because you’ve read a book once. Let’s all listen to experimental jazz fusion and ban the concept of fun while we’re at it

@ZJaoti51030 @bilbosfootcomb Yeah, we got it, you’re edgy OK, I’ll bite once again, what exactly constitutes the “formula” that describes all of the songs on the list?

@ZJaoti51030 @bilbosfootcomb A lot of hate in that comment, wow All art recycles and reimagines previous art, that’s just how art is It’s true that eurovision has its own cliches, but it’s like… part of its charm? And they do go outside the box quite frequently, again, even among these songs from the list

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb 1) all of them are regurgitated slop that is recyclation and cannibalisation of previous songs in eurovision 2) yes its all slop produced in a factory by an industry but eurovision has its own specific cliche's and eurovision songs could not survive in a vacuum cuz of this

@ZJaoti51030 @bilbosfootcomb 1) Not true even for some of the songs on this list, guess they are in those 10% lol 2) Most of pop music does this?

@angel_kld @bilbosfootcomb I believe it’s from songs being good, who exactly are the people listening is besides the point. Most likely a mix of both

@angel_kld @bilbosfootcomb Bit of a hard choice since I don’t like Michael Jackson much, but ok, frankly, the chorus of this song sounds very funny to me: youtu.be/h_D3VFfhvs4?t=… Tell me if you’ve heard just this clip and didn’t know Jackson you’d think this sounds good

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb The burden of proof is shared here but I would like to challenge you to pick a 10s clip from a chorus of a verse of a universally liked song, say Smooth Criminal, and try to have it sound bad.

@angel_kld @bilbosfootcomb Well that’s more of a you thing considering the numbers of streams on these songs even after the finals

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb For me the songs are fun ig but for example I would never really listen to them on my own, even for the few songs I consider "good"

@angel_kld @bilbosfootcomb That’s the point I’m making, there are few “well-known” songs in general. Like, they are a rarity. How many popular european non-eurovision songs can you name? Great songs are a rare occurrence in general, but in no universe are these ones bad

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb I expect you are an viewer or at least in the circle so that doesnt tell me much and you just named 2 for the like 5-6 songs this century that actually became well-known overall.

@ZJaoti51030 @bilbosfootcomb A chorus is nothing without a buildup, that’s just basic songwriting. But you are also probably ragebaiting, so…

@angel_kld @bilbosfootcomb I do listen to quite a lot, and there are songs that stayed popular afterwards: Arcade, SNAP, Waterloo etc. Kt’s ridiculous to expect generational bangers every year, but the songs are still great

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb And Im not trying to be negative here, I've been watching for as long as I have memories but lets not pretend the overall music is of particular quality, the songs are very very rarely listened to (after the fact) by people who are not active watchers

@StranderSay @bilbosfootcomb Most 10s clips you will find from great songs will sound great cmon. A lot of these songs only become tollerable because you hear them enough over the course of the competition and because they are surrounded by more mediocroty (as far as the ear can hear)
