The worst case scenarios were always worst case, and built upon what-if scenarios the scientists knew weren't likely, and they communicated this the entire time. The climate science is still real

@B_H_Creations @maiamindel Fortunately, the US is not the only country, and was always doing pretty poorly in this regard. The rest of the world might not be doing as much as we'd ideally like, but it's still pretty much impossible to reach 8.5 without every country going as crazy as the US

@maiamindel I think one point many complaining about rcp 8.5 never being realistic are missing is that it was based on doing nothing which seemed inconceivable and yet the current US administration are doing everything they can to reverse their move to renewable energy.

wasn't it kind of openly stated that the super alarmist scenarios were very unlikely and that even the 1.5-2 degrees ones would have *really bad* consequences? like, did nobody else do the reading?

It's frankly ridiculous to pretend the early trends were gonna keep going for decades

These scenarios were only gonna happen if *nothing* changed and we continued accelerating emissions without any attempt at stopping it. That was always the worst case predictions, and that was never gonna happen
