Caverns originally used a Bunker door as a placeholder before the cool doors with the 12 pivoting panels were made. According to developer Duncan Botwood it was @drdoak who got them working. 🚪

@dr_janusmd Let me ask @SubDrag because he knows better than me. Am I saying this right that when the rooms stop rendering it's because they are being unloaded from memory? Or are they still in memory but just not being rendered?

On Frigate the doors on either side of the bridge are locked. If we use the Setup Editor to unlock them, then open them, and open other doors, we see that this overloads GE's portal system and causes rooms to unload. This probably explains why they were locked in the first place.

In Dam the guard towards on the dam are numbered 2, 3, and 4. In Facility the platforms in the quad room are numbered 2, 3, and 4. Where is 1? Did the GoldenEye developers just hate the number 1? We need answers.

@goldeneyedepot I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with those Bunker doors. The fog changed heavily in almost every level. So many subtle details. I guess the overall FOV is different, in every screenshot? Menu combiner deltas. Lots more...looking forward to your analysis.

If we look at where the oil drums were in the GoldenEye Setup Editor we see nothing. Other removed objects show up as unused presets - big red boxes - but these presets were completely removed. If not for the screenshot we'd never have known the oil drums existed. [5/7]

This prerelease screenshot of Control is found in a Swedish catalog of N64 games. It shows a number of differences from the final game including hanging lights, lack of hand on the PP7, a different door, and oil drums. Ignore the brown blob at bottom that's Brosnan's head. [1/7]

@goldeneyedepot I thought all these promo shots were part of this dump: web.archive.org/web/2008011804… The wayback machine sadly doesn't have the screenshots...I know somebody has to have that saved...I must somewhere hopefully too, but struggling to find.

GoldenEye article from Nintendo Power issue 92, January 1997. Shows prerelease shots of GE and they also say they were sent a cartridge of the game. Is it possible that this build of the game from ~9 months before release still exists? 🤷‍♂️
