ICE Arrests Indian Trucker Accused of Critically Injuring American Pedestrian in Indiana
An illegal alien from India who was driving a semi-truck involved in a collision that left an American citizen fighting for his life has been taken into federal custody, authorities say.
The tragedy unfolded in Indiana on March 6, but the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just released key information about the suspect this weekend.
Sukhdev Singh, 25, is accused of hitting a male pedestrian with his big rig in Indianapolis at approximately 6:30 p.m. that evening.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital and remained in critical condition as of Friday, according to DHS.
Singh was arrested at the scene by Indiana State Police, who contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
ICE took Singh into custody, where he remains pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings.
Singh was issued a non-domiciled Commercial Driver's License by the state of New York on Jan. 2, 2025.
DHS says Singh is an illegal alien, although it is unclear how or when he arrived to the U.S.
“It is common sense: illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on American highways. We are praying this individual makes a full recovery,” said DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.
“It is incredibly dangerous for illegal aliens, who often don't know our traffic laws or even English, to be operating 18-wheelers on America’s roads. Sanctuary governors like Kathy Hochul must stop giving illegal aliens driver’s license before even more Americans get injured or killed.”
