@SPHeREprogramme congrats SPHeRE scholar Kathleen Harkin on winning the student oral presentation award at #HTAi2022Utrecht! A really thought-provoking discussion of what we mean by 'life cycle' evaluation of medical devices, and why important. 🇮🇪

Absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted in 3 categories in last night's @RAMIreland research awards, and was shocked to have won 2 of them (Public Health Medicine/Epidemiology and Psychiatry). Thank you @RAMIreland for a brilliant night!

12 years after starting as a postdoc at @NCIEpiTraining and three babies later - I can finally say that I'm a tenured investigator! Thanks to all my mentors, mentees, and collaborators.

@dannifromdublin @amelia_epi We were so confused about why a bunch of roads were closed when heading in. So much for pleasant Saturday walk about the city! Definitely checking Twitter before we leave the house next time...

@Tasmin1974 @petermbarrett1 I think it's also relevant that in countries such as the UK, the role of public health consultant is inclusive of specialists who do not have an undergraduate in medicine. This is not the case in Ireland - there is no route except through bachelors. Surely important re supply?

I have to say, the #SPHeRE2021 periodic 5 minute intermission music is the relaxing interlude intervention I've been needing in my pandemic days.

Great #SPHeRE presentation from @KieranWalshMPSI on our study of duration of infectiousness of #SARSCoV2 #COVID19. Will be important to monitor whether any emerging difference in infectiousness duration associated with new variants of concern.

Dr Kieran Walsh is now presenting on "The duration of infectiousness of individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2: A rapid review" @HIQA #SPHeRE2021 #Conference #Duration #Infectiousness #RapidReview

@jamesfomahony @Varletron Any chance you could share by DM, James? I've been noticing recently how there seems to be a real perception with screening that low obvious direct cost = cost effective (and therefore 'should be implemented') so I'm interested in papers that might be contributing to this.

@Varletron I recognise the type of example you mention. No meaningful cost data given at all in today's case, but was in a population screening context, so even a small cost per participant could equal big budget impact.

I can't get over the number of times I see clinical studies asserting an intervention is cost-effective without presenting or citing any relevant evidence. It's as if the reviewers can't see unsubstantiated claims if they relate to health economics. /Grumble

Tomorrow I will get my first paycheck from @UniofOxford and that is pretty cool. Tonight I found a full, juicy slug INSIDE MY APARTMENT in Oxford and let me tell you, that is not remotely cool.
