With all the sadness that has been going in the world, God was exceptionally kind to me. I threw my dreams into space like a kite, and it brought me a new life, new friends, and a new country. Love, it seems, is still somewhere in orbit.

@khan_isaac Just because people are more vocal about it, does not make it modern. To each their own, I’m just talking about my priorities.

@Teheera It seems to be modern trend , Some scholarly people are falling prey to this.

If I have to sit through one more meeting where a man explains he’s “spiritual but not religious” or no longer believes because Pakistani society effed him up… Imma kill myself. Where are my good-natured, God-fearing Pashtun men at?

@sabcoSea Good for them, I’m just upset about my friends setting me up with these heathens when I’m clearly not one of them.

@Teheera So many people in our society have quit to be religious but can't disclose due to religious extremism. They openly express their opinions when they are outside Pakistan in a democratic country

@SawaraGul Ikr! Not everyone I come across needs to know I have a deep seated fear of rejection so I start working on subconsciously giving them reasons for rejection the moment we meet.

All this secondhand marijuana with the nauseating smell, but none of the good stuff? That should be illegal.

Where guys, with no self confidence to sit straight for a pic, muster the courage to connect with women way beyond their league will always be a mystery to me.

And just say you’re mad about having to stay late yesterday, don’t make shit up. Now he’s pissed because the intimidation didn’t land, randomly trying to make the awkward go away, and I’m like not gonna happen. So yeah. Fun day.

I’m like, brother, we have different residents on today, and we all stay until all patients are done. Also, I’m on an off-service rotation so naturally going to be slower than you guys. And also, no one has ever objected to this before.

So this one senior is mad at me because yesterday I called to confirm if the evening patients were coming. Turned out only 1 was coming, so I got my coworkers’ consent and the attending’s approval to leave early. He ended up staying late because of an unexpected walk-in.

@Gypsy_heart8 Most of the Bengali population I work with tend to have the same names, just spelled differently. With Malaysians, I remember an aunty once told my mom some people in her culture picked baby names by pointing randomly in the Quran, which led to some unintended meanings.

@Teheera Honestly, I’m not so sure. A Bengali or Malaysian would be better able to respond.

It’s because our other option was Persian names, prominent among our grandparents, but post-47 our connection with Persian severed, & unlike Bangladeshis or Indonesians, we refuse to connect to our Hindustani roots, we substituted one set of foreign sounding names with another.
Nouman Warraich, PhD@NkWarraich

Why did we 🇵🇰 adopt mostly Arabic names? Many non-Arab Muslim countries (e.g., 🇹🇷 , Indonesia 🇮🇩 , and Bangladesh 🇧🇩 ) retained strong local naming traditions, using only few Arabic names. How we ended up being so Arabi-fied in naming kids, leaving our own culture behind.
