"The American president woke up on Easter and embraced Allah" is something a crazy Egyptian tv imam would say.

I’m so glad I grew up on This Land Is My Land, This Land Is Your Land grade school globalism. I see how terrifying the world is for people who are incapable of compassion and I just feel so lucky I was surrounded by so much diversity

@hutchinson They came of age during the Reagan ascendancy, an era characterized by a weak Democratic Party, an electorate that was 87% white, and a backlash to the welfare state that was successfully branded as an undeserved giveaway to lazy/inferior minorities. That imprinting has lasted.

People under 30 might not remember that we could go weeks without hearing from or thinking about the President of the United States.

My pollster friends have done focus groups with double haters, and if you want to understand why the United States is a declining power in the world, just spend 15 minutes with them.

What is interesting about Texas, to me at least, is that the GOP decries how awful the cities are in our state. They claim they are crime-infested, homeless folks everywhere, crowded, and controlled by Democrats... But the map shows the conservative rural half of Texas is declining in population, and the cities are booming. No one wants to live in those desolate areas, except cattle.
Zachary Donnini@ZacharyDonnini

NEW — Net domestic migration data from 2020–2025 shows a reshuffling of where Americans live. People are fleeing cities (especially in CA, the Northeast, and the Rust Belt) and moving to suburban and rural areas across the Southeast, Texas, the Ozarks, and the Mountain West.
