There’s a foreign influence operation trying to trick us into war with Turkey. Don’t let them.

My guess on the big, medium-term take-aways from the Iran war 1. Iran has learned that it can close & charge Hormuz at will 2. China has learned that the US is overstretched 3. Europe has learned NATO is a dead letter until the GOP de-trumpizes, which is at least a decade away

@ToniGering @CBSEveningNews You realize news channels have capacity to cover more the one story at a time, don’t you? Ever read a newspaper? Or watched the evening news? Or opened a news website or app? Anyway, here’s CBS covering the murdered scientists just TWO DAYS AGO: thenationaldesk.com/news/americas-…

Police say a 28-year-old California man allegedly bought expensive LEGO sets, kept the pieces and returned the boxes filled with dry pasta. Authorities say the scheme was repeated about 70 times nationwide before he was caught.

@TraceJoyWar @wdseelig @JeremiahDJohns @JonahDispatch Are you going to tell me that the DOD/DOW behaves no differently if led by Pete Hegseth vs. Lloyd Austin? That HHS is no different under RFK, Jr. than under Kathleen Sebelius? Or most obviously, that DOJ and FBI act no differently under Bondi and Patel than Sessions and Comey?

@GenXGrumpy @wdseelig @JeremiahDJohns @JonahDispatch Political appointees in the agency secretary, assistant secretary, deputy assistant secretary, and other senior positions make the real decisions — wha gets prioritized and gets resourced, in line with the White House’s policies. The career people execute.

@TheValeMark @wdseelig @JeremiahDJohns @JonahDispatch I worked for the federal government for over 40 years. He's correct. Only certain long term dem politicians have any clout. Senior career democrat SES employees run everything. If they don't like a presidential policy, the slow it down or just won't implement it.

I went to Stanford's grad school of education where Boaler was working before I knew how bad the state of education science is and how among other things ed grad school doesn't replicably make teachers better. I wasn't teaching math so we never interacted, but she was talked about universally as the main celebrity there. Never saw any pushback and I didn't look into the specifics of what she was about until later. Talking about how bad the state of education science is as a teacher can make you sound like a conspiracy theorist, it's hard to communicate in a way that sounds grounded how fake a lot of the things being promoted by prestigious institutions are. I'm really excited Kelsey's taken this problem on because there needs to be a lot more good thorough writing on it. Wish this wasn't paywalled so I could share it with more people but imo it's worth the subscription. theargumentmag.com/p/education-re…

Catholicism befuddles the American political spectrum because it espouses sexual mores favored by conservatives and social mores favored by progressives. And so conservatives don’t like it when the Church starts making noise about the social part of its teachings.

It will be utterly tragic if, after all this pain and suffering, we end up with a similar or worse deal than the JCPOA. But at least we will get some laughs watching as the usual suspects suddenly have to praise Trump for giving Iran “pallets of cash” for their uranium. 😂
Marc Caputo@MarcACaputo

Scoop: U.S. considers $20 billion cash-for-uranium deal with Iran as peace talks progress Whether Iran takes the offer is another matter. We might find out in Islamabad this weekend @BarakRavid w/an assist from me axios.com/2026/04/17/ira…

@JeremiahDJohns @JonahDispatch The premise here is simply wrong. Elected Republicans don’t “control” the government, and, for that matter, neither do elected Democrats. The thin layer of elected officials is almost always overwhelmed by the entrenched power of the permanent deep state.

EXCLUSIVE @TheAtlantic On multiple occasions Patel’s security detail had difficulty waking him because he was seemingly intoxicated, according to info supplied to DOJ and White House officials. A request for “breaching equipment”was made because Patel had been unreachable behind locked doors. theatlantic.com/politics/2026/…
