@daniel_dsj2110 @SynesisIdeas @philopol81 @GChaton3k @iaingstewart On the French written side, I'll add that Sophie Marcotte Chenard's book is really good if you are interested in Aron as a philosopher of history (a nice update to Sylvie Mesure. @howserob is currently translating it! Joël Mouric on Aron's conception of Europe.

@SynesisIdeas @philopol81 @daniel_dsj2110 Colquhoun's biography but that might be because I appreciate the temporal and contextual distance (his bio is old and he wasn't a French insider). Otherwise, in French, the best intro to his thought is by @GChaton3k (easy to read, covers almost everything, up to date!)

@TiltingatM3 But I think historians are just bound to clash about any kind of sweeping claim about history! The debates in France about the emergence of feudalism never stopped, it is less straightforwardly political but no less violent.

@TiltingatM3 I don't think it really is a problem. We need different concepts to deal with different contexts and research questions and we end up using the same word for different concepts. Philosophers might bring some clarity to the debate (but recently they don't seem to).

The basic claim of the racial capitalism paradigm, as I understand it, is that preexisting ideas about ethnic differences in feudal europe were blown up, exacerbated, and reified into the concept of "race" by the emergence of capitalism. What is the objection to this claim?

@twoinou_ par une baisse de la qualité. Pour prendre un exemple que j'ai sous les yeux, je pense que ça sera le cas pour la correction de copies. Mais c'est un sentiment plus que quelque chose que je peux justifier objectivement.

@twoinou_ Je pense que même si les gains de productivité restent bas, on atteindra un tiping point de dépendance de l'ordre du too big too fail. En particulier si des contrats publics de long terme sont passés, dans des domaines où la faiblesse du gain de productivité peut être masquée
