Ariston Veasey just emphatically convinced Erik Bakich to leave him in the game for one more batter, the only man he had yet to face. He then struck out Vance Sheahan looking to end the top of the 7th. Bakich was the first one out to greet him. Fiery. Gutsy.

During its 4-game losing streak, Clemson has: -walked 17 batters (1 intentional) -hit 12 batters -committed 8 errors -thrown 2 wild pitches That’s 39 free bases in 4 games. Almost 10 per game. Can’t keep doing that. No amount of offense can overcome that many mistakes.

@robertwindon Yes. Remove every and all associations to college, too. Pro sports and academia are incompatible. At most, let colleges sponsor a team and apply a patch if they want to. Problem solved.

Charleston assistant Chris Harriman is joining Brad Brownell’s staff at Clemson, source tells CBS Sports. Harriman, a highly regarded coach, spent two seasons with Chris Mack and previously worked at the high-major level at Cal and Nebraska for seven combined seasons.

@Ayo_TTime9 To me most of the details of this saga suggest something personal is or was going on behind the scenes. The way Wade reportedly announced it (email from his agent??), and the way LSU has behaved sounds more like a Hatfield-McCoy kind of situation than anything "professional".

@AlwaysCallHeads @WinterSportsLaw For sure the chaos favors athletes almost entirely, especially when written rules are ignored by teams or just not enforced by any authority. Rules effectively null. I believe over half of D1 players would welcome some structure that works for "student athletes". Not just pros.

It’s a bit naive to believe college athletics will reign itself in. The “student athlete” model has been long gone, well before the House settlement & schools paying athletes. Have to either stop operating pro teams or operate them like pro teams. Can’t stay in limbo world.

@WinterSportsLaw Could Duke be more of an outlier than a repeatable model? First, they benefit from being able to hide from public view any finances they wish. For the most part they are independent of state governance (e.g. not beholden to Regents/bodies, etc.). How many can replicate? So few 1/

This shows how integral athletics success has become to the marketing/image of many universities. It’s why many are now sending increasing amounts of $ to athletics departments. Another important point: schools now can’t rely as much on history/tradition in recruiting.
