@loftusjohnw Co-text and register are determining factors in the meaning of words. Elohim (God/gods) can be singular or plural depending on its use. Basic Hebrew.

Genesis 1 should be trans: “In the beginning when the gods made the skies and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep.” There's no creation ex nihilo. It's not a creation but a making. It's not heavens but skies. It's not God but gods.
