Eyecatchers 👀 WORLINGTON You’d have to be living under a flat racing rock not to have noticed this one earlier… Handicap debutant for George Boughey, who has a reputation for getting these types well treated. Worlington was campaigned in maidens over trips too short, dropped out the back and never put in a position to show his hand. Tonight, on handicap debut, he was slow to stride and had to be scrubbed along but made strong late headway to confirm he’s very well handicapped. The 1m trip looked on the short side, which ties in with his stride data - long, slow stride (attached), suggesting middle distances will suit. Worlington reminds me a bit of Hardstyle, another recent Boughey handicap project - well backed on debut, didn’t quite deliver, but went on to win 3 of his next 6 and is now almost 20lbs higher. Worlington won’t go under the radar next time… But he’s one to keep firmly on side over 8f+

Eyecatcher 👀 DUKES COMMAND (Wolves 7pm, 20th March) If you backed this last night, you’ve every right to feel a bit aggrieved - he’s shaped ridiculously well. Drawn in 8 (dark blue & yellow silks), Dukes Command breaks well under Oisin Murphy but the problems start early. Unable to get cover, he’s forced to race 3-wide the entire way whilst tanking along - pretty much the worst trip you can get at Wolves. Considering this you’d expect him to drop away, but he doesn’t. He sticks on strongly, hits the line hard and finishes 7th. He’s been progressing well of late - beating a next-time-out winner (My Fermoy, who won next time out last night) before a solid 3rd in Listed company. Still off 95, he looks well treated. The drop back to a mile looked no issue either - when beating My Fermoy he clocked 10.66s & 10.63s for the final 2f off a slow gallop, which is fairly rapid. One to keep firmly on side. Interesting whether they stick to AW or go turf next.

This is a good example of how markets and race setups can change between tips Advised 7/1 (2pt EW) the night before with Velvet Red in the race (main danger). She was declared a non-runner early this morning (6:13am), which completely changed the shape of the race. That turned it into a 1pt win bet for the day service, with Solar Pass still available at a solid price in the new market. She even flipped in the parade ring and still won - which caused a late drift Understanding the race setup and your opposition is everything.
