The '78 dress has several ways to balance the visual weight of fabric and ruffles: The light color, the high shine (making it slip-like), and the open sleeves and back and neck. Notice how the current version has the visual weight of concrete: An excess of ruffles hiding every feature, a dark color, a heavy-looking (even though technically light) fabric with modest sheen. No hint of a woman's body under this giant bedspread. It erases the woman completely; she's reduced to a clothes hanger to display the designer's ego.

The key difference is that the 78 collection has open necks and open backs and short sleeves to balance the visual weight of all that fabric. Vacarello's Saint Laurent, with the fabric from neck to floor, buries the woman in fabric as a living shroud. It makes a world of difference in design -- and in taste.

@Muinchille And yet, it has a real vibrant, colourful energy that exists in spite of the council and corporate destruction. It's a tragedy that our ruling class never trusted the capital, or any city, culturally.

Dublin is an interesting city. Sometimes, we use the centre as a capital, and sometimes as a dustbin, depending on who's in charge and how close they are to the mind of the country. Right now, it's a dustbin, for those in charge are only listening to themselves.

Imagine not believing Trump is dead just because there's "no evidence." Where's your sense of whimsy, your joie de vivre
