Even from a pragmatic standpoint there's a certain power that comes from sincere belief that there exists some all powerful and infinitely wise entity that you can access through a sincere act of supplication

But theoretically this problem is solvable in the modern age with a benevolent AI ruler. It never dies, never makes decisions out of selfishness, and if given absolute power could potentially fix humanity's most persistent problem

Overall I think democracy does give more consistent results. While an empire gives higher ups and lower lows. Depends on who's in charge

But democracy has the issue of prioritizing short term results to appease populism

Bonapartism is cool until you can't find any more benevolent geniuses to run your country
