@henrydaubrez @TheCinesthetic Same thing with Muppets. There is no lack of desire and ideas for Muppets content at Disney. The problem is Muppets content is surprisingly quite expensive to produce and there is not enough audience to monetize.

@henrydaubrez @TheCinesthetic There are thousands of cast at Disney who would like to make a movie like that again. After Toy Story, audience expectations shifted from hand drawn to CG. It didn't matter how excellent the hand drawn was, the audience wont turn up in numbers sufficient to justify the costs.

At what point did Disney think it was a good idea to stop making animation this incredible?

I have always liked how succinct @gavinpurcell's framing is. This pretty much sums it up. → The key is “speed to I.P." As quoted in @loudmouthjulia's article today. This applies equally to internal development and to UGC.

Bob Iger's OpenAI deal died with Sora—and Disney insiders quietly exhaled. Now Josh D'Amaro must rebuild the company's A.I. strategy from scratch. The question isn't whether Disney partners with A.I. again. It's who, and how. @loudmouthjulia reports: puck.news/disneys-post-s…

This is a great example of how development execs can use AI to noodle through ideas for new shows or reimagining classic shows. It is a low cost low stakes way to think through creative elements such as pacing and tone.

MAX HEADROOM. Of all the 80s nostalgia I wish would come back, this was a series that predicted so much about media and cultural trends we're experiencing today. This is my concept for how to bring the series back...

Just tried chatjimmy.ai - holy crap the speed. What it is: a company called Taalas is burning entire language models directly into silicon. Their ASIC card processes Llama 3.1 8B at 17,000 tokens per second. For reference, an RTX 4090 does about 150 tok/s on the same model.

@henrydaubrez @projecthailmary I had a similar takeaway. This is a well-crafted movie in the vein of a really fun ’90s blockbuster. It’s not a 2010s franchise movie trying hard to sell lunch boxes. I mean that as a compliment. I give it two 👍👍.

What is a generative AI artist? Not just someone using AI to produce images, but someone shaping questions, authorship, and a world of their own through it. I put together a full guide on the difference from AI creators, the five pillars, monetization, authorship, ethics, and long-term practice. en.ai-creators.tech/media/creative…

@JonasJCampbell Good franchise management is knowing when to say "no." Its easy to say yes to everything when you have unlimited resources and the enthusiasm around you gets the better of your sound judgement.

I've been tuning open source workflows for a 2D animation style, also using my agentic framework Codeywood to produce consistent animations like this. (Yes, there's still some jank, but $0 unlimited productions) Tools: - z-image - Qwen Edit 2509 - Video generation - LTX 2.3

@venturetwins In 2005 "they" said George Lucas shouldn't be called a filmmaker anymore because SW Ep 3 was the first 🎥shot entirely digital. Cinematographers wanted the 🎥 disqualified for an Oscar in cinematography because digital wasn't cinema. Looks ridiculous now and digital is the norm.

It’s funny. Last few days, besides the few morons saying I was lying about something I have absolutely no reason to lie about, a lot of you also told me: “Don’t share your process, they’ll rob you blind.” I hear you, and thanks for the concern, but if you’re clinging to workflows right now, you’re clinging to straws. I’m not saying I want to give away everything I spend hours and money figuring out, but the reality is that processes don’t stick. The tech moves too fast. Every project I’ve done so far used different tools, different tricks, different bugs, different approaches. What you learn today has an expiration date, and that’s fine. The one thing I actually trust is what I learned about storytelling this past year by releasing multiple short films. Traditional filmmaking makes it hard to keep producing fast, often, and at decent quality. Working with AI let me fail faster, and learn faster. I also trust my taste. Not because it’s for everyone, but because it’s mine. Between storytelling, taste, and vision, I’m betting that matters more than any workflow that will be obsolete by the time I finish writing this. Why do you think so many people farm engagement or sell “secret workflows”? Because they know those workflows won’t last. The value is in the moment, not in the method. Trust yourself. Your voice lasts longer than your tools.
