This isn’t even true. New ethnic groups have been created all across Africa because 2 or more distinct ethnic groups came together and mixed, they would just have a different name that is different from the ethnic groups they descended from.

Almost all tribes in Nigeria do intermarriages, but never have I ever heard of any tribe merging with another except for Fulani to Hausa. Kuma the main reason behind their intention to merge with the Hausa is purely political. Not even religious as they want everyone to believe.
