It might help to clarify that a bit. Capita’s 2009 report was excellent and showed cttees were able to provide ‘gold plated’ services or those where there was no clear rationale for
@govgg intervention at all.
The smoke and mirrors was in States’ response to those findings.

The FTP was a load of absolute smoke and mirrors. On the face of it it is still making savings today. And some of the states savings go back so many years. Think how much we've saved and are still saving by closing St Peter's school in the 1960s. And we saved so much our spending has grown faster every assembly since.

Agree perception of ‘charitable volunteers’ not being bookkeepers, but treasurers, secretaries, chairs are the most needed. Hence trying to explain the need etc. Biggest hurdles, our changed lifestyles & perceived bureaucracy

You refer to skilled administrators, but many wouldn’t consider charitable volunteers as bookkeepers. The small, intimate nature of many charities which attracted long term volunteers has gone.

We also have a higher proportion of skilled administrators etc. which could provide more volunteers in those roles. Vast majority of our charities have no staff, so not ‘corporate’

@JayneOzanne @WayneBulpitt @The_IoD Could it be that the consolidation of charities, the imposition of bureaucracy and risk and the requirement to have qualifications for say cooking has just driven away volunteers from the older demographic? These charities are more corporate these days?
