On the 25th October 2018, from my hospital bed, I began to write.
At first it was a way to anchor myself to the strange new reality I had found myself in, but as I wrote, as I learnt, I began to think this could be something bigger than just my diary.

@psus24 @MartinSLewis All of my pip payment goes on my car. I have to pay £8k up front out of my own pocket. I work 6 days a week and im a wheelchair user. Pip isn’t means tested and the cars aren’t free.

@MartinSLewis My home is a tiny village in northern England. We all know each other, so many are rinsing out benefits. Free cars, rent. Many of them are very active and no real reason they can’t work. This includes a family member. It’s shocking.

40% of UC claimants are the working poor others are carers, have disabilities or illness, & some who don't have work, want it. A little more compassion & less judgement wouldn't hurt.

Just spotted.... this is a good change for benefits recipients, deductions can be soul-destroying. #budget "Caps deductions made through Universal Credit at 15% of the standard allowance. Before this Budget, it was 25%... approximately 1.2 million households will keep more of their Universal Credit payment each month, with households expected to be better off by an average of over £420 a year"

New private homes shouldn't have to be wheelchair accessible. Many of the most attractive homes in the country have steps up to the front door, allowing for basements with generous natural light. Building regulations effectively ban building like this any more.
