NASA was paying a billion-dollar premium every year to rent its own workforce through contractors instead of just hiring them directly, and somehow nobody thought that was a problem until Jared Isaacman showed up.

Very Brexit Problems

Americans love banging on about the War of Independence. They’re quieter on the War of 1812. Here’s why. In 1812, America declared war on Britain. The plan was to march into Canada and annex it. Thomas Jefferson said it would be “a mere matter of marching.” It wasn’t. The Canadians sent them packing. Two years later, the British sailed up the Potomac. American forces collapsed at Bladensburg in what’s still called “the Bladensburg Races” because of how fast they ran. President Madison had already fled to Maryland. The British walked into Washington unopposed. They sat down in the White House, ate the dinner Dolley Madison had laid out for forty guests, used the President’s silver, then set fire to the building. Then they burned the Capitol, the Treasury and the Navy Yard. A freak thunderstorm put the fires out the next day. The British left when they were ready. It’s still the only time a foreign army has captured the US capital. You can see why it doesn’t come up much.

U.S. Army soldier Jakob Marcoulier, 22, has been charged after threatening on Discord to carry out a mass shooting at a synagogue, saying he would “walk in with my AK… and kill every single Jew.” Prosecutors say Marcoulier, stationed at Fort Polk, described the attack in detail, including weapons and gear, and was reported to the FBI, which intervened before any violence occurred. He now faces a federal charge of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce and 5 years in prison.

Last Saturday, we were informed that the state would be responsible for our protection, and we were prohibited from bringing our firearms as they had taken control of our security. Later that night, an assassin stormed the event, exposing the significant security lapses. However, something extraordinary occurred that night that I can’t shake off. The goalpost shifted. The night was deemed a success because the perpetrator failed to reach the president or the cabinet. What?! Look, I don’t believe what transpired on Saturday night at WHCD was the result of a massive conspiracy. I don’t think the law enforcement officers who rushed toward danger were not brave and honorable. Nevertheless, I refuse to accept that this was our best performance. Washington seems content with waiting for us all to move on to the next story. I refuse to move on. Our entire security apparatus demands scrutiny. How many times have we heard after a major casualty event that there were signs that were overlooked? Last Saturday night, they assured us that they had control, but they didn’t. And if you’re going to ask us to surrender our firearms, you better rise to the occasion. They did not.

We remember Holocaust and Auschwitz survivor Edith Eva Eger, who has passed away at 98 years old. Eger was an acclaimed psychologist known for her specialization in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and for her 2017 book, “The Choice: Embrace the Possible,” which tells her story and advocates for the power of choice in our lives. May her memory be a blessing. Edith Eger was born in September 1927 in a Jewish family in Budapest. A ballet dancer, she was even a member of the Hungarian Olympic gymnastics team, but was removed from the team after the Hungarian government enacted anti-Jewish laws. In March 1944, Edith was forced to live in the Kassa (Košice) ghetto with her parents and her sister Magda. Two months later, they were deported to Auschwitz. She was separated from her mother, who was murdered in the gas chambers. The two sisters were assigned to slave labor and survived various camp. After the war, Edith Eger moved to the United States and became a psychologist. She offered incredible life wisdom: “Once you get angry, you give your power away. When you are angry, you can’t hear you. I’m very selective with who gets my anger. Dissolve the anger; it is inconvenient, and I don’t like it. We must keep on walking.”

This is one of the dumbest tax proposals in California's history, and the math is so bad it embarrasses the people who wrote it. Start with the headline. SEIU promises $100B in revenue. California spends $161B a year on Medi-Cal alone. The entire windfall, if collected at face value, funds 7 months of one program. Then it's gone forever, and the structural deficit they claim to fix returns the day the check clears. Now the math gets uglier. The Hoover Institution estimates the permanent income tax loss from departing residents makes the net fiscal impact NEGATIVE by $25 billion. Read that twice. California sets fire to political capital, court costs, and capital flight to NET LOSE $25B. They're proposing to torch recurring revenue to fund 7 months of a program they've already underfunded for a decade. The exodus already happened. $700B in net worth wired out of California before January 1, 2026. Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Travis Kalanick gone. The remaining 208 billionaires aren't tech founders sitting on liquid stock. They're real estate, agriculture, entertainment, the people whose wealth is physically bolted to California. Mobile capital fled. Trapped capital pays. Read what San José mayor Matt Mahan, a Democrat running for governor, said about this on KQED: "It will lead to middle-class people having to pay higher taxes in the long run." A Democratic gubernatorial candidate openly admitting the wealth tax is a regressive transfer to the middle class. That's the part proponents won't put on the signs. The legal exposure is worse. The proposal taxes wealth held as of January 1, 2026, retroactively, after voter approval in November 2026. Retroactive wealth taxation has never survived constitutional challenge in any US state. Washington's capital gains tax survived only because the state Supreme Court reclassified it as an excise tax. The poison-pill measure on the same November ballot bans retroactive taxation by constitutional amendment, funded by $80M from people who can afford the lawyers. Every wealthy democracy that tried this killed it. France's wealth tax drove out an estimated 42,000 millionaires and €100B in capital before they repealed it in 2017. Italy, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Iceland all tried wealth taxes. All repealed. California is about to vote on the experiment every comparable economy already ran and lost. The signatures are real. The math is fake. The capital is already gone.
Pop Base@PopBase

A petition for the California billionaire tax, which would implement a one-time 5% tax on the state's 200 billionaires to fund healthcare programs, has received 1.5 million signatures — which could help it qualify for the November ballot. Gavin Newsom shared that he was fighting against this amendment in a previous interview with The New York Times.

WILD FOOTAGE 🔴 Beautiful footage of a Smash fire control system mounted on an M4 taking down a Hezbollah drone with 2 shots. The SMASH fire control system is an Israeli made smart sight developed by Smart Shooter and mounted on an M4 Carbine that tracks moving targets such as drones and calculates the exact moment to fire. It helps shooters hit small fast aerial targets with high accuracy, turning a standard rifle into an effective low cost counter drone weapon. Footage via: @david_lisovtsev

This morning this Palestinian flag was found taped to the back gate of an Israeli community. The Jewish man who noticed it saw there was a string attached to it and alerted the police. The string was in fact connected to an explosive device that was meant to explode when someone would remove this Palestinian flag. You will not see this report in mainstream media.

Iran just threatened the United Arab Emirates after its bombshell exit from OPEC. This move hits the regime at the worst possible time. The reaction from Tehran was fast and furious. Iranian MP Ali Khodrian from the National Security Commission accused the UAE of aligning with America for another strike on Iran and warned the Emirates would be “taught a harsh lesson” in any future conflict. During the recent 2026 war, the UAE bore the brunt of Iranian retaliation: ⚪️ 2,800+ total incoming systems ⚪️ 2,256+ drones ⚪️ 563+ missiles More than any other country in the region, including Israel. The Islamic Republic is now an existential threat to the small Persian Gulf emirate. With rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE timed its departure well. It can now break free from quotas and ramp up production later without triggering immediate global chaos. More UAE oil on the market long term means lower prices and a direct squeeze on the regime’s lifeline. The harsh truth is that oil revenue is the Islamic Republic’s oxygen. The UAE just turned up the pressure on that lifeline while flexing its independence from the cartel. This is not just about energy policy. It is a geopolitical gut punch that exposes Iran’s vulnerability and growing isolation, even among Gulf neighbors. The mullahs are seething. The UAE hit them right where it hurts most.
The Iran Watcher 🇮🇷 tweet media
The Iran Watcher 🇮🇷@TheIranWatcher

The UAE just walked out of OPEC and OPEC+. That is not just an oil story. It is a direct ECONOMIC BLOW to the Islamic Republic. OPEC+ exists to coordinate production, limit supply, and keep prices higher. Iran benefits from that structure because even under sanctions, higher oil prices mean more revenue for the regime. Now one of the Persian Gulf’s major producers is leaving the table. The UAE says it will withdraw effective May 1, giving itself more freedom to increase production outside cartel limits. More Emirati oil on the market means more pressure on prices, weaker OPEC+ coordination, and less room for Iran to benefit from artificially tight supply. That matters because Iran is already UNDER PRESSURE. Its exports are constrained, storage is filling, revenue is tightening, and the regime is relying on every dollar it can get to fund security forces, proxies, and the state budget. Lower oil prices hit that model DIRECTLY. This move also sends a political message. The UAE is signaling it will no longer sit inside a cartel structure that indirectly helps keep Iran’s regime financially alive. For Iran, the damage is both PRACTICAL AND SYMBOLIC. ⚪️ Less support for HIGH OIL PRICES ⚪️ Weaker OPEC+ unity ⚪️ More Persian Gulf alignment against Iran ⚪️ More pressure on regime revenue The Islamic Republic survives on TIME, OIL REVENUE, AND REGIONAL LEVERAGE. This move attacks all three. The UAE gets more freedom. Global markets get more supply. Iran gets more ISOLATION. That is why this matters. It weakens the cartel structure that helped cushion the Islamic Republic, and it adds another layer of pressure at the exact moment the regime can least afford it.
