When I was around 12, I was over at a family Christmas party where my down syndrome cousin was present. Most of the day he sat staring out the window. He had a thing for giving people violent handshakes and at one point we locked eyes and I knew what was about to happen. He started slowly walking towards me pointing at his hand, signifying he was about to shake mine and everyone just laughed until he got ahold of me and nearly ripped my arm out of socket. They finally pulled him off of me, but the most terrifying part was watching him drag 3 grown men towards me letting out the loudest down syndrome screams you’ve ever heard. I ran to the bathroom and locked myself in there until it was time to leave.
