UNIJOS SUG PRESIDENT| |Good Governance Advocate| |Veterinary Medical Student| This above all: to thine own self be true

Following the Vice Chancellor’s appearance on JayFM this morning regarding student safety and the proposed resumption of exams and academic activities on April 13, it is clear that many students of the University of Jos remain deeply concerned and dissatisfied The recent killings in Jos have left students traumatised, displaced and uncertain about their safety It is important to emphasize that over 90% of UniJos students reside off campus, where security is not guaranteed. Expecting students to immediately resume examinations under these conditions is not only insensitive but unfair We acknowledge and commend the efforts of the SUG President @Younglan_Tal and his team, who have remained proactive and committed to protecting the interests of students during this difficult period Jossites, we must stand united✊ We call on all UniJos students to show solidarity and collectively demand that the school authorities prioritize our safety and mental wellbeing by granting adequate time before the continuation of academic activities. No student should be forced to write exams under fear and trauma. our safety comes first. Aluta Continua ✊

Pls if you’re moved to support the students stranded in UJ hostels, kindly DM @Younglan_Tal The SUG President. He’s active to reply as soon as possible. Pls share & Tag Organizations or people that can help🙏🏾 God bless @ShielaChuhwak1 @vdmempire @ChuksEricE @ruffydfire

From my DM a UNIJOS student said: “Despite the announcement of the 13th as the resumption date, there is a deeper reality many people are ignoring. The SUG executives have been tirelessly working day and night to support students who are still on campus, yet they have received no financial support whatsoever from the school management since this crisis began. It is even more painful knowing that government funds are meant to ensure student welfare in situations like this, yet the burden has been left almost entirely on the shoulders of the SUG. The SUG President, in particular, has gone as far as using his personal resources—moving from hostel to hostel, checking on students’ safety, visiting injured students in hospitals, and even helping to track missing or deceased students, often using okada and keke just to get around. Beyond that, the SUG team is also supporting security personnel on campus, many of whom are unfamiliar with the environment, ensuring their basic needs are met. This level of sacrifice and commitment is something that deserves recognition, not criticism. It was therefore very disappointing to see people publicly attacking the SUG President, especially when he and his team are doing so much under such difficult conditions. Meanwhile, the same cannot be said for the school management, who appear distant and unresponsive at a time when leadership and support are most needed.”

I don't envy the new SUG president. This is a defining moment for him. He either engraves his name in the history books, be bold enough, show students that their union is with them and will protect them at all costs. Or he could be like the regular chipmunks that office has been breeding. No student should be left around that environment right now. Period. Afterwards, the SUG should carry out an independent monitoring and evaluation exercise that deems it safe and fit before any student is asked to resume. Not the school, administration or government. The students union. It'd be Independent and accountable for the students. This is what student leadership was invented for. The question is whether he knows that. 😤

One thing is certain, the school cannot fail over 40,000 students writing exams We will not be intimidated into silence.

Thank God say na y you share ooo
