Models in a couple of years may not even be based on the transformer architecture; gpu stuff rn is crazy inefficient and AI researchers are looking for ways to get intelligence without the costs we have rn. Makes me wonder how fast these big companies will crumble.

@bridgemindai Yes :) and won't need frontier LLMs for coding usual stuff. Frontier will probably be used for science production grade only at some point. Immagine in 2-3y a fable-level LLM on a 12gb VRAM... or much more accessible VRAM due to production automatization pipelines.

I think the advice to go into debt to get a GPU is beyond dumb. If anything, buy a physical HDD and store things on it so if the day comes, you have the models and can THEN go into said debt..
