We’ll probably never know exactly what went on behind the scenes, but everything flipped overnight on March 17 after Ali Larijani was killed. The whole nature of the war (the one that was supposed to act as leverage to help the Iranian people), suddenly changed direction. From that night on, the strikes on the regime’s security forces, checkpoints, and top officials basically stopped. At the same time, Iranians were still being told every single day to “stay home, it’s not time yet.” Then all of a sudden, Trump comes out and says the regime has changed and that a peace deal with the “new regime” is already underway!!!! Well, I just don’t see any convincing reason why the Iranian people, after watching all this nonsense, even after more than two months of total internet blackout, crushing economic pressure, and living in constant fear, would rise up again, get shot in the streets, and have their blood used as another bargaining chip in some new “deal.” At least in the short term, the deep despair and suffocation people are feeling right now isn’t going to turn back into anger and protest energy without some real sign of hope or success.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, led by Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, reportedly warned that anti regime protests could resume within days as the economy deteriorates. Officials said economic pressure is the main trigger. The assessment claimed Iran may only withstand another 6 to 8 weeks of a U.S. naval blockade. By the end of spring, up to 2 million private sector jobs could be lost. Security officials reportedly concluded unrest is inevitable, with only the timing uncertain. - Iran International

1/2 The 'sanctions failed because exports recovered' argument ignores what actually happened. Trump's Max Pressure only went into full effect in May 2019, when the JCPOA exit waivers expired. In less than 18 months, Iran's oil revenues collapsed 78%, from $51B to ~$11B. The tool was working. We cut Iran's oil revenues by 78%. Biden gave it back. The 'recovery' had nothing to do with Iran's resilience. The Biden administration stopped enforcing sanctions and looked away while China's teapot refineries quietly bought discounted Iranian crude and a shadow fleet matured. Iran's revenues went from $11B back to $43B, not because sanctions failed, but because the U.S. stopped using them.

Whether or not Europe stands with us, whether or not your journalists do their jobs, whether or not your politicians demonstrate the courage to act, I will fight for my people and my country.
