Donating to NGOs to help Syrians is great but if you want to help a displaced Syrian family directly and immediately, please consider supporting my good friend @Freedomsham2011's fund-raiser. 🙏 gofundme.com/f/refugee-reli…

Syria needs a functional and empowered parliament soon for people to voice their frustrations through political participation and settle issues not with protests and counter protests with the potential for violence but through their representatives.

In response to this: even retrospectively, the correct decision by the rebels in Deraa in 2018 was to engage in ‘reconciliation’ w/the regime rather than have their towns & villages turned to wasteland, essentially waiting to fight another day w/initiative coming from the north.
Shaykh Zubayr@ZubayrShaykh

Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi isn't some Zionist, he is just a hardcore defeatist/peacenik He previously in 2018 defended those in Daraa who decided to "reconcile"with the Nusayri regime under the faulty assumption that the war was "hopeless" anyway, and his defeatism isn't selective

I remember @SaraHunaidi describing three useless discourses we should all avoid if we want to have a serious conversation. 1. It was better under Assad. 2. Everything about the new government is fine. 3. The new government is ISIS.

Today I attended the IMO successful “Law and Dignity” protest at Youssef al Azmeh Roundabout in central Damascus. I’ve shared videos, but here are a few notes.

It happened again today - 4th time in about 10 days.. At an office, a Syrian employee asked where I’m from. “The Netherlands.” “No, I mean originally?” “I’m Dutch.” “No other roots?” “No. What did you think?” “I thought you were Syrian.” And honestly? I'm super happy when this

It's pretty well-guided. A sizeable infrastructure project led by private businessmen that will generate jobs, and a symbolic renewal of a destroyed city and society that gives people hope.

The construction of the Great Mosque in Der Alzor, so great it’ll potentially be the biggest in Syria and the 2nd biggest in the Levant, in a city of which 80% is ruined is a sign that the priorities’ compass of the transitional government is misguided. sana.sy/locals/2446303/

During the war and after the fall of Assad regime, with the destruction of the country & economy, work became almost useless. I often feel helpless, but I keep dreaming that the bitter reality will change.. Some day here I planted a mulberry tree gofundme.com/f/refugee-reli… #syria

@SyrianShabab "Limited achievements" as opposed to what, "unlimited achievements?" It's fine to criticize the government but too many people have unrealistic expectations about what could be done in just 1-2 years in a very complicated political situation.

“Limited achievements,” they say, such as: -freeing prisoners and stopping Assad’s crimes -getting U.S. sanctions removed -unifying Syria -preventing an Assadist coup and civil war -rebuilding state institutions -increasing electricity from 1 hour to 12 hours per day -restoring relations with the whole world -closing most refugee camps -being the most free country in the region ... and a lot more!
Enab Baladi@EnabBaladi_Eng

One year on, Syria’s government shows limited achievements, no clear strategy, and weak transparency. An #Enab_Baladi file tracks the government’s first year across services, the economy, administration, and governance. f.mtr.cool/tkoimtdkrl #Syria

I always joke that I was the “first” protester against Bashar al-Assad. This was back in July 2000, in front of the UN in Geneva, after he inherited power. My father & the few people there took a big risk as this would prevent them from returning to Syria and endanger relatives
