It’s not like secularists have tried—or succeeded—in removing “Islamist-leaning” governments in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, or Turkey.

The flag currently used by the new Syrian government became increasingly used by anti-Assad protestors as the government's abuses and crimes against humanity made it clear that reform from within was impossible.
The regime needed to be overthrown.
