Turns out you can run enormous Mixture-of-Experts on Mac hardware without fitting the whole model in RAM by streaming a subset of expert weights from SSD for each generated token - and people keep finding ways to run bigger models Kimi 2.5 is 1T, but only 32B active so fits 96GB

I got a 1T-parameter model running locally on my MacBook Pro. LLM: Kimi K2.5 1,026,408,232,448 params (~1.026T) Hardware: M2 Max MacBook Pro (2023) w/ 96GB unified memory Running on MLX with a flash-style SSD streaming path + local patching. This is an experimental setup and I haven’t optimized speed yet, but it’s stable enough that I’ve started testing it in an autoresearch-style loop. #LocalAI #MLX #MoE

@cfo_mm Dispatch talks to cowork, chrome and I think to Code sessions in that are in the desktop app. It needs to talk to code, & maybe use remote-control sessions the way it starts dispatch cowork sessions Dispatch and remote control do the same thing for cowork and code respectively

If everything thing here is accurate, and it likely is because I’m near certain Gurman lives in the walls of Apple Park… Apple is likely to have the most compelling AI platform of any lab or platform vendor. Parts of the UX described seem great as well as features. I’m excited.

@soholev @trq212 I feel like they want more of the enterprise market, coding or not, and they’re aggressively building more tools to cater to it. I think that’s smart vs OpenAI’s unfocused consumer push w/ sora, health, go, & ads. Tools like Claude code, cowork, excel are useful for consumer too

@avidseries Yes they are Anthropic smartly focused on productivity & enterprise. This stuff costs a lot - even for the hyperscalers like Google OpenAI was unfocused - they’ve been spread far too thin, and they don’t have Google/Amazon’s revenue & cash. Looks like they’re trying to fix it

Even immigrants are angry about demographic change. They moved to England because it was England, not Pakistan or India. This elderly Pakistani moved to England 66 years ago, and says people used to respect the law. Now migrants have no respect, he says, discussing how he's been mugged and watches people steal constantly. In Newham one in five people are "Boriswavers" (who entered the country in the last few years). I interviewed locals about how Newham has changed. Very few spoke English. Of those who did, almost everyone spoke about crime.
