I agree this is a welcome step. I’ve previously called for Somaliland to have its own international dialing code, so its formal submission to the ITU is timely and necessary. It will strengthen secure transactions, support remittances, and global connectivity. Smart move forward.
Dr. Ali Hersi@qoolbulale

Somaliland goverment has formally submitted a request to the (ITU) to obtain the international dialing code +259. This initiative aims to distinguish Somaliland’s telecommunications system from Somalia. It is step toward enhancing SL’s global digital identity and sovereignty

#BREAKING:Somaliland reached 50 million Americans across major TV networks, even catching the attention of President Donald Trump as Hassan Aden shared facts long overlooked: 🔸Somaliland was independent before Somalia and several East African nations 🔸It is not a breakaway region, but seeking re-recognition 🔸No valid union with Somalia was ever signed 🔸The union is widely disputed as fraudulent 🔸Over 200,000 Somalilanders (Isaaq) were killed under Siad Barre 🔸Somaliland restored its sovereignty in 1991 A powerful message delivered to millions.#Somaliland

When Iranian-backed Houthi fighters entered the Middle East war last weekend, firing their first missile at Israel, they released a statement warning the world that “closing the Bab al-Mandeb Strait is among our options”. With the world’s eyes fixed on the blocked Strait of Hormuz, this narrow waterway connecting the Gulf of Aden and the Suez Canal had been largely ignored. Known as the Gate of Tears, it sits well within the range of Houthi missiles, offering Iran a second lever to throttle world trade. Standing watch over the Bab al-Mandeb’s southern gate is a country that does not officially exist: #Somaliland @venetiamenzies

#Somaliland Although the territory of six million people operates as a nation state, maintaining its own currency, military and elections, Somaliland is officially considered part of Somalia and is denied a seat at the UN. But after 35 years in the diplomatic wilderness, Somaliland’s location in one of the most contested geopolitical arenas in the world has thrust its battle for recognition into an unexpected spotlight. In December, Israel became the first UN member to recognise Somaliland, eight days after the US authorised a study into the feasibility of a military presence at its port of Berbera, which would treat it as a sovereign security partner in a step towards recognition. @venetiamenzies
