@Metal_Crow The recent CA court case brought this back to my attention. I think it's sketchy that the dangerous dosage is only 2x the recommended/oral prevention dosage.

“A floating island of garbage…?” Referring to Puerto Rico??? “Poisoning the blood of our nation…?” We have “murder in our genes….?” Fuck these racists. Latino men of good will, have pride in yourselves and your ancestors. A vote for Trump is a vote against self-respect.

@cremieuxrecueil What was the voting turnout in lieu of those id laws? you know that you need a DiD model to show there was no/negligible effect.

"Our largest city will be an engineering marvel. It will be global focal point of fashion, the arts, commerce, finance, and research. Trains running underground in a system that moves millions of people around a tiny island" "And these trains will connect to the airports?" No.

@cremieuxrecueil @chris__sly So, either bad polling or republicans are more likely to call someone a friend than democrats? 3rd option: performative answers - sounds unlikely, but that’s a possible way to break the symmetry, if Rs think they’re more/Ds less open-minded.

@chris__sly A few reasons. For example, you're not surveying everyone, and what counts as a friendship is subjective.

In the U.S., Democrats are less likely than Republicans to have friends who identify with the other party.

Do you think somebody possibly has video of Trump mocking the handicapped, demeaning US prisoners of war, boasting about sexually assaulting women, praising Vladimir Putin, or urging a violent attack on the US Capitol? That would be huge.

@cremieuxrecueil What if instead we reduce the time for patent [given shorter time to market/ability to recoup R&D costs]? Is that a way of [over time] reducing health care costs?

This is yet more brilliant work by Parker. The government can constrain Medicare prices: And this lowers manufacturer revenues: Leading to less R&D spending, and then to fewer new medical devices and patents: And lower overall product quality:

🚨 What happens when the gov't cuts prices on medical technologies? New research (w/ @YunanJi) finds a 61% price cut led to: 75% drop in innovation (may fully offset savings) 49% fewer new firms 28% more production moved overseas 3x repair/replacement rate 🧵(1/n)

I support vacancy taxes (or better: land value tax), which would help vacant properties move back onto the market quicker. This wouldn't be sufficient to fix the UK's housing shortage though, and it's counter-productive to pretend otherwise.
Torsten Bell@TorstenBell

Good idea: making sure long term empty properties are brought into use Bonkers nonsense: BBC homepage article stating as fact that “If all empty homes were brought back into use, the housing crisis would be solved at a stroke”. Utter nonsense. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@lizziellen @DavidZipper I think [again, conjecture] that they are often installed in under/over policed majority minority communities, where indeed, many of the speeders are PoC. But also, PoC pedestrians deserve safe streets in those communities, right?

Hard to overstate how much of an improvement speed cameras are compared to police issuing tickets. Speed cameras are *way* more fair -- and also more reliable. theconversation.com/police-stop-mo…

@DavidZipper I live in a small town (ahem, "city") w the worst racial disparity in traffic stops in the entire state of VT, but cameras seem to be a nonstarter. Do you need a certain traffic volume before they become financially viable?

@mpsever I think that the both-sides-ing of everything made "the other folks" think that they needed to be worried about the fresh nonsense every day throughout the current administration, alas.

Spoiler candidate @DrJillStein was just endorsed by the infamous Ku Klux Klan leader, David Duke. In 2016 and 2020, Duke endorsed Trump. Stein "rejected" Duke's endorsement, but neatly forgot her funny tweet about Charles Koch endorsing Hillary in 2016.

@GaryWinslett VC is very tied to enshittification and squeezing all consumer surplus out of systems. I’ve seen very little good done by VC in the past 12 years.

Like, the problem with venture capital in this country isn't that we have too much of it, it's that we have too little. We need more venture capital outside of our superstar cities, not less of it everywhere because some people don't like the vibes or don't know what they do.

@_NotA_Bot_ I would like to go beyond infill and use MHUTT as a model for establishing new parks, and you are absolutely right we need someone working on zoning for that to work--MDR districts that have space for density without building up, especially. 6/6

It would be really helpful if someone was pushing to legalize mobile home parks are reasonable densities everywhere residential is allowed. Our current zoning too often means that working class residents have no options to site a home on a small affordable plot.
Governor Phil Scott@GovPhilScott

Vermont faces a housing crisis – which was only made worse by recent floods. The Rapid Response Mobile Home Infill Program, which was stood up this summer, is actively placing units on vacant lots.

Trump canceled both his 60 Minutes and CNBC interview. He declined to participate in another debate, and he is refusing to release any of his medical records. All of this makes us wonder: what is Kamala Harris hiding from us?
