@Hotshot_Movie I saw an interview once with movie critics Siskel and Ebert where one of them said something similar. It was that Hollywood shouldn't try to remake great movies, they should remake movies that were mediocre but with interesting premises.

When I was working on Sideways (which was adapted from a book), I asked the director, Alexander if the book were any good. "No it sucks. You don't adapt great books. You adapt shitty books that have an interesting premise, or a kernel of something that you can exploit and improve. Good books don't make good movies. You have to build a screenplay from the ground up. And nobody is gonna be mad at me for changing the details of a Rex Pickett novel. One my favorite stories from my blogging days was about a Guinness Facebook group. Some guy complained that a picture of his pint only got 7 likes, while ones featuring Guiness-Loving-Gazongas received thousands. Other dudes called him a wanker, so he rage quit and left.
