As we approach Easter weekend, I’m reminded of how Jesus went into the temple where money changers were using a sacred space for profit, and he started flipping tables. Jesus fed the hungry, and today the GOP is taking away SNAP benefits and making grocery prices soar. Jesus healed the sick, and today Republicans are cutting healthcare access and closing rural hospitals left and right. Jesus loved the Samaritan woman and lepers—the most marginalized of their time, and today Republicans are sending masked agents to disappear our immigrant neighbors. Jesus also said “It is It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" (Matthew 19:24), and here in Tennessee the GOP is giving tax breaks to billionaires and welfare to the wealthy while the most vulnerable among us suffer. Back then, Jesus was flipping tables for less. It’s time to start flipping tables here in Tennessee.
