@wmarybeard State school Latin gave me a strong entry point to so many languages and a much needed boost against independent school undergrads when I came to Cambridge. I must thank my excellent Latin teachers over the years, including one who taught me in his own time at A-Level

I feel so sad about this scrapping of the Latin Excellence Programme, bringing Latin to state schools (I've been involved a little). I am trying hard to resist the idea that it's prejudice against the subject (combined with a dash of ignorance) tinyurl.com/5fjr9ywk

@CatrionaGrant Down here in Englandshire, it often comes with some kind of tartan price premium. I’ve seen it with the high-end soups, in the world food aisle: all much more expensive than other brands. It’s just soup. My Gran always had a press full of it!
