The Lament for Ur, written after the mesopotamian city-state was destroyed in 2000 BCE by the invading kingdom of elam. one of the most poignant and somber literary works of the ancient world.

This exquisite stone carving adorns the ceiling of the Lakshmi Devi Temple, Doddagaddavalli, Karnataka. Lord Indra, the king of heaven, is beautifully portrayed here seated upon his divine mount Airavata, the majestic four-tusked white elephant, accompanied by his graceful consort Sachi Devi.

i sort of agree with this model, but there is a dravidian substrate in all prakrits, including those spoken in the gangetic plain. peggy mohan writes about it in her book. bb lal’s excavations in the plains reveals painted grey ware cohabitation with late harappan artifacts.

a map of what i'm imagining (there is dravidian substrate in sindh, guj, maharashtra; and brahui exists in balochistan). no dravidian substrate in gangetic plain tho...different languages that went extinct

umm…who is this directed at? the “initiative” doesn’t even mention the u.s. israel, iran or the gcc countries. how do china & pakistan get belligerents to play ball? iran has already said they are not involved in pakistan’s initiative. both sides are talking escalation.

xuanzang (cir. 6th cent CE) on pataliputra’s architectural marvels. this theme of the mauryan imperial palace having apparently been built by genies resurfaces. the rock chamber referenced by xuanzang might be the barabar caves.

they called it kusumadhwaja (कुसुमध्वज) - city of the blossoming flower banner - the indian subcontinent’s imperial capital for over a millennium. what imperious rulers held court here: from its founder ajatashatru to chandragupta maurya, ashoka, vikramaditya & samudragupta.

Several meters beneath the ground in Patna city lie such ruins of India's greatest city. This was the part exposed in Bulandi Bagh area in 1895 by L.A. Waddell. It shows remains of the wooden palisade which formed the protective wall of ancient Pataliputra. Very old picture enhanced and colourised, thanks to @grok.

absolutely. very well analyzed. under munir, pakistan has invested in narrative crafting on social & digital media to give the impression it is on the ascendancy. but it can’t hide the fires engulfing areas west of the indus & its economy on life support.
BILAL SARWARY@bsarwary

After Asim Munir consolidated his hold on power, Pakistan’s government and military expanded investment in narrative warfare, including television and digital media platforms. The aim was to counter India in propaganda and promote Pakistan’s narrative globally. A parallel focus emerged on Afghanistan amid tensions with the Taliban. While these efforts may have yielded some gains in the Indian and international context, they appear to have backfired in the Afghan domain, undermining Pakistan’s narrative credibility. Media messaging against the Afghan Taliban reportedly adopted racist and derogatory rhetoric, particularly targeting Pashtuns. A notable example was the controversial “Acha Ji” video, produced in the presence of the Information Minister, which drew widespread public criticism in Pakistan including within the ruling party. Despite sustained efforts, the state has not developed a narrative capable of securing broad domestic support for confrontation with the Afghan Taliban. Conversely, the Afghan Taliban demonstrated greater effectiveness in the narrative domain. During periods of heightened tensions with Pakistan, they secured support even from segments of Afghan society traditionally opposed to them. By framing the confrontation as an issue of national honor and survival, they consolidated broader public backing. This approach effectively enabled them to leverage even their opponents in the narrative campaign against Pakistan, contributing significantly to their advantage in this domain.
