A reminder that New Zealand is a long country spanning about 13° of latitude from Northland to Southland - if NZ moved to permanent daylight savings, Southland's darkest winter month sunrise would be around 9.30am compared to 8.30am in Northland.

I reckon we'll look back in a decade and say the moment everyone, left and right, realized they can't say their favourite ideological canard (river to the sea / send them all back) but an international student can do 150 upskirt shots and walk free was the moment it all changed.

The briefing note describes a trend of incidents with "high blast radius" caused by "Gen-AI assisted changes" for which "best practices and safeguards are not yet fully established." Translation to human language: we gave AI to engineers and things keep breaking? The response for now? Junior and mid-level engineers can no longer push AI-assisted code without a senior signing off. AWS spent 13 hours recovering after its own AI coding tool, asked to make some changes, decided instead to delete and recreate the environment (the software equivalent of fixing a leaky tap by knocking down the wall). Amazon called that an "extremely limited event" (the affected tool served customers in mainland China).

After watching the Australian GP Qualifying last night, my worry is that this is going to be a disappointing new era of F1 regulations.
The 50% electrification is kind of a bummer. When you see a car lift-and-coast on a straight to regen their battery--whereas in the past, they would go flat out on the same spot--the driving feels...flaccid.
I wish that Formula 1 would just go back simple V10 engines. Driving would be better, and the sound would be incredible.
