I have an interview for a Catholic school principalship on Thursday. I’ve had a series of career near-misses recently. I really hope that ends soon.

This site is crazy because people will ask something like “tell me how you would structure the education system in America” and then accuse you of dodging when you don’t respond right away.

Thank you all for the kind responses. I had no idea my silly story would resonate with so many of you. God is good, friends; He is faithful and merciful and He pursues us with wild abandon. Be assured of my prayers.

This is a Divine Mercy story. Twenty odd years ago, I went to Confession. Had very good reason to do so. Told the priest, "I don't think God can forgive this." The priest didn't hesitate. "Well that's bullshit." (Priest was from Melbourne, so imagine this line spoken in an Australian accent). Then he said: "Jesus is the King of Mercy." My penance was to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I told the priest I didn't know what the Divine Mercy Chaplet was. So he handed me a pamphlet and told me to use a rosary to pray the Chaplet. I told him I didn't have a rosary. He said, "Bullshit. You do now." At which point he pulled a rosary out of his pocket and gave it to me. It was his personal rosary. He also told me to get my hands on a copy of St. Faustina's diary "Divine Mercy in my Soul," which I literally found on the parish's "book giveaway" table at the back of church as I was walking out after Confession. Fast forward 20+ years. Our first-born child was baptized on Divine Mercy Sunday. And our sixth child is Magdalene Faustina (it took that long because we had four boys between daughter 1 and daughter 2). So yeah, I guess you could say today is a pretty important day for me, my wife, and our family. Jesus, I trust in you!

The Libary of Congress should "lock in," on a scheduled basis, inviolable benchmark collections of classic & significant works. The point is to establish cultural baselines so that retroactive editing can't disfigure, misrepresent, or ideologically warp our cultural history.

@b_fink For anyone still suffering, listen to today’s gospel (John 20: 19-31). When Christ shared his scares with Thomas, he shared with all of us. These scars we carry on our souls, they show us that we belong to Him. We would not have them if we didn’t. Christ has forgiven and loves U

@ThereseArm56424 Wow! Thank you for sharing your own story -- there really are no words to express the depths of His mercy; so overwhelming and so undeserved!

This is an extraordinary story, Brian — and very Australian in the best way. The blunt honesty, the priest who knew exactly how to cut through despair, and the way mercy unfolded in your life over decades. That’s how Divine Mercy works: it meets us at our lowest, restores what was broken, and then quietly reshapes the whole future. I stepped away from the faith in my twenties and became involved in the occult/New Age before finding my way back. It took time, healing, and a great deal of grace. Stories like yours remind me how God’s mercy reaches people in ways that are direct, personal, and unmistakably tailored to what each of us needs. Your family’s connection to Divine Mercy is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it — it will encourage more people than you realise. Jesus, I trust in You.

@b_fink @poyntilism We celebrate our Evie’s feast day on Divine Mercy since her name parses out to Good News of Mercy. I don’t know much about the particulars of the visions, but God’s mercy is always worth celebrating!

👍👍👍💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️ I'm a cradle Catholic who went through the 1970s poor Catechesis. Never stopped going to mass, but undiagnosed ADHD did help attention at Mass. 25 years ago, my wife was in an auto accident with a TBI. In my daily visits to ICU, I grabbed a stack of pamphlets & booklets my older sister had sent, probably years before, to read to her. I started reading a small booklet on St. Faustina. "Wait, what?? Jesus appeared to her?? I never heard that!" That was the straw that s-l-o-w-l-y put me back on track. (My modified version 😁): For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us, the souls in purgatory, and on the whole world. ✝️✝️✝️

@b_fink The Divine Mercy Chaplet calmed me and carried me during one of the roughest seasons in my life. I have started every day since by praying it…that was 4 years ago❤️
