@northernassist good morning! Have 2 advance singles for Oxenholme 12:39 to Windermere, but first part of journey Edinburgh 10:11 to Oxenholme is cancelled. Are our tickets valid on later trains, and if so which?

people seem very excited that chatgpt can expand a few bullet points into a lot of well-written text. it can also collapse a lot of well-written text into a a few bullet points. the latter is much more valuable, right?

In July, my beloved parents in law came for a short visit from Australia. Today they made it home - 3 months later than planned. In the meantime they had an intensive introduction to the NHS, and @OUHospitals and GP took incredible care of my FIL - I will always be thankful.

@mt_inside What helped me with German: Anki for vocab (boring as shit but it works), a good online teacher (at least 2 hours of conversation a week), daily listen to news podcasts for comprehension. What language?

The guy who just won the Fields Medal – like a Nobel Prize for mathematics – has a work ethic we should all emulate. Three house of focused work per day based on following his desires at that moment. quantamagazine.org/june-huh-high-…

@bethdean I use the "Minimal Theme for Twitter" extension which strips most of this stuff out and it's amazing. Without it I think I would just give up.

I would really enjoy my Twitter experience a lot more if I were in control of my feed. About 90% is injected growth content: other people’s likes, topics I don’t care about, etc. I wish as a paid user I got to turn all of that off and escape the bad takes from strangers machine.

@ZaraSheldrake I think the marches _are_ taking action though. It makes public opinion really visible, which puts pressure on politicians to take action at the country level.

the term "gaslighting" is now used across the entire political spectrum as a weaponised means of expressing the following concept: "saying stuff I don't think is true"

@gabrielgambetta @avfletcher Mostly what I do is try to encourage people to respond that it didn't make sense, at least one time, so it's obvious that I mean it as a genuine question... Not sure it fixes it though!

@avfletcher @baitman Oh wow, I had never thought "does that make sense?" could be interpreted that way. I use it, and I've always assumed "does that make sense TO YOU?" was obvious and implied! But adding an explicit "to you" makes it sound kind of harsh IMO. What to do, what to do...

@scottydocs @Zipcar My normal running route goes across a long bridge, and someone inevitably leaves one of those rental scooters halfway along, 500m from easy pedestrian access (and anywhere you'd want to _get_ to). I assume because they think it's funny?
