This era, 2006-2015, was peak for culture. I feel so bad for Gen Z not being around to experience peak it. Nothing was heavily curated yet, you could still hang out in record stores and chat with people with your taste. Indie, pop, rock... all of it was so good. Bad Romance in particular was so influential for me that it completely rewired my taste in music, finally convincing me that pop didn't suck. The internet put so many new things at our fingertips. I discovered so many bands and artists I would have never found on my own. I attended festivals, concerts, and tiny little dive bar venues constantly, to see bands I only had just found on Pandora, or because someone reviewed their album, or because they dropped a music video that was pure fire, like this. But after 2015 or so, the algorithms smoothed it all out, created a baseline bland sameness. We'll never have another like Lady Gaga again, the algorithms won't let us.
