@jie_yu @ApacheMesos Just like libprocess it was designed to support actors/message passing in addition to asynchronous future/promise style chains … and it compiles in seconds vs the minutes for libprocess! 😂

@jie_yu It’s libprocess from @ApacheMesos redux but trying to avoid the inefficiencies inherent in the future/promise model due to eager evaluation; it’s inspired by continuation passing style but tries to be a simpler interface.

@skamille @eric_brewer @palvaro Hmm, makes sense that sharding would help latency, but not that shared memory couldn’t improve it more. Alas it’s a good benchmark to add to evaluation, and highlight that app/resource specific info is still important, and the system doesn’t prohibit you from such optimizations.

@skamille @eric_brewer @palvaro you mean because some RPCs still have to copy data and some don’t? Or something else?

@eric_brewer @palvaro @skamille We agree there Eric, and ask instead how to add references and distributed memory to RPC without changing its _existing_ semantics, and immutability is key to that.

@benh @palvaro @skamille Haven't read the paper yet, but I did speak on this topic in the same PODC keynote in 2000 that had the CAP theorem. My main issue is pretending that rpc can have the same semantics as local...
