@dhh He says 5PB of data, and a 100MB/s link. But that would make the migration in the best case, without overhead, around 1 year. The math is off, or I didn't understood something.

Jeremy pulled off an incredible feat migrating five billion objects off S3 and onto our own on-prem petabyte storage setup. He shares the story on our new technically-minded Recordables podcast. youtube.com/watch?v=BnhVXG…

@rosapolis “The key words in this document can be applied when the threat model is ambiguous, and mitigations are unclear or inconvenient.” It’s POSSIBLE that this MIGHT be the best RFC of all time

I'm down a rabbit hole for a talk I'm preparing and stumbled upon one of the best RFC of all times datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc69… Going to use all these plus "COULD (BUT NO WORRIES IF NOT, SORRY, THANKS)" to complement my usually apologetic and insecure writing 😆

I have come to believe that beauty is embodied care quartey.com/writing/why-be… That wherever attention accretes and care pools, regardless of how fine or modest the canvas, the focus of that concentrated loving intent cannot help but produce the quality of beauty.

Progress is improvement in the diversity, complexity, and harmony of all forms of life. To use the word progress in connection with economic activity is a form of brain damage.

3 days later, but finally finished my #AdventOfCode polyglot+ challenge 😅🎉 25 languages, without repeating any of 2019's 25 languages! Thanks to @abeaumont for the inspiration and for participating in this madness, and to @ladybenko for hosting the best ladies' AoC Discord!

Last Tuesday my Dad was hit and killed while crossing the street. He was 75 and healthy. I assumed I would have more years and plenty of warning that his time was ending. I’ll regret forever that I didn’t maximize the time we had together.

A van that says "One Stop Heating & Cooling" has been over to my next door neighbor's house to repair their air conditioning seven times in the last month. Does it mean you get to use your AC system exactly one time per stop?

Noise is a remarkably insidious form of pollution: a 10db noise increase (from dishwasher to vacuum) drops productivity by 5%. But the kicker is you don't notice: noise hurts your ability to think, not your effort. You work as hard but do worse! And poorer areas have more noise.

@_ko1 To "cut a portion," yes, and to mimic Array#slice. I think sequential-ness is more about how the data type is addressed (indexes/ranges vs keys) than the slicing itself, which is concerned with "what am I cutting?" (Plus, "hash slice" language is familiar from Perl. 🙈)

@bitsweat just a curious. why do you chose the word "slice" for Hash? github.com/rails/rails/co… For me (non-English user) I think that "slice" is for a subset from sequential object (slice the cake, and so on. Array#slice makes sense), or is it natural for the English users?
